The following are highlights of incidents that were handled by officers of the Baxley Police Department over the past few days.
On May 2 at approximately 2:46 a.m., stopped a vehicle for a headlight violation. As a result of the stop officers observed the driver to be impaired. The driver was transported to the detention center, for a D.U.I. test. At the detention center and during a pat down by a female jailer, a small purple bag of cocaine was seized. The driver a Heaven Manning, 19, of Hazlehurst, was charged with one count each of possession of a controlled substance, D.U.I., open container, and possession of alcohol by a minor. A passenger in the vehicle Zachary Kyle Hall, 21, also of Hazlehurst, was charged with one count of open container.

May 3 at approx. 7:38 a.m., met with officers from the Appling County Sheriff’s Office and their K-9 unit, the Chatham County K-9 units and the Altamaha Drug Task Force at the Appling County Middle School to conduct a search for illegal drugs. After the search was completed, it was reported that no illegal drugs were found.
May 4 at approx. 4:47 p.m., met with a complainant at the City Circle Mini Storage Units in reference to a burglary. On arrival the complainant told officers that person(s) unknown had broken into her unit and removed a PlayStation 2 game console and some games.
May 5 at approx. 12:25 , met with a resident at a West Wood Apartment in reference to a theft. On arrival the resident told officers that she had been out of town, and when she returned she discovered the person(s) unknown had broken into her apartment and removed a 34 inch Sonya flat screen T.V.
May 5 at approx. 5:36 p.m., met with a resident at a Tippins Street address in reference to a theft. On arrival the resident told officers that while she was gone person(s) unknown entered her home and removed a 19-inch Phillips flat screen T.V.
May 10 at approx. 8:19 a.m., met with a complainant at the Progressive Club in reference to a theft. On arrival the complainant told officers that person(s) unknown had broken into the gym and removed eight fans with motors, a large window air conditioner unit and unknown amount of radiators, some large pieces of aluminum and a large amount of copper wire.
May 10 at approx. 8:49 p.m., met with a complainant at Huddle House in reference to a theft. On arrival the complainant told officers that person(s) unknown had removed her bicycle that was parked out back of the restaurant. The bike is described as blue and gray in color, Mongoose, seven speed, with a basket on the front.
May 10 at approx. 6:00 p.m., met with a complainant at Appling Healthcare System in reference to a theft. On arrival the complainant told officers that while he was inside the hospital visiting, person(s) unknown removed a weed eater from the rear of his truck. The weed eater is described as green in color and as a straight shaft.
May 14 at approx. 11:22 a.m., answered a call to Citi Trends in reference to a theft. On arrival officers met with a clerk who informed them that there were three females in the store who had took several items without paying and already left the store. When the clerk confronted them, they threw the items at her and fled the scene. A description of the females and the vehicle was given out to other units and in just few minutes the vehicle and the three individuals were stopped in Graham. Arrested in connection with this incident was Darryen Amber Garner, 18; Kirstie Leigh Dixon, 18, both of Hazlehurst and Katelyn Marie Roland, 20, of Baxley, on one count each of theft by shoplifting.
May 15 at approx. 1:52 p.m., met with a resident at a Crosby Street address in reference to a theft. On arrival the resident told officers person(s) unknown had removed his lawn mower from his home. The mower is described as red in color, a Murray 22-inch high wheel push mower.
May 19, answered a call to Wal-Mart in reference to a theft. On arrival officers met with the L.P.C. officer who related to them that they had an employee that had taken out a sum of money from the register at the service center and then walked off the job. A lookout was posted on the employee, Cynthia Herrington, 42, of Baxley, along with warrants being issued for her arrest on charges of one count theft by taking.
May 20 at approx. 9:30 a.m., answered a call to Stone’s Feed and Seed in reference to a burglary. On arrival the officers met with the complainant who told them that person(s) unknown had broken into the business and removed an undetermined amount of currency and change.
May 23 at approx. 00:38, answered a call to a room at Pine Lodge in reference to a 911 hang up. On arrival officers discovered the presence of Cynthia Herrington, whom they had outstanding warrants on from the earlier Wal-mart incident. Herrington said she had dialed 911 in attempts to turn herself in when a subject in the room with her hung the phone up and when he heard the police at the door he fled out a rear window. Herrington was taken into custody on the theft by taking warrant. Later on that evening officers returned to the room and inquired as to the person who had fled earlier, when they noticed an orange in color, plastic bag with a white substance, which turned out to be cocaine. Arrested in connection with the seizure was Ricky C. Jackson, Jr., 27, of Baxley, on charges of one count each of obstruction of a police officer and possession of a controlled substance.
May 24 at approx. 1:48 a.m., answered a call to an armed robbery call to Flash Foods. On arrival officers met with a clerk who told them that she had been robbed at gunpoint by two black males, dressed in dark clothes, with scarfs and sunglasses. The clerk stated that the two came into the store and motioned for her to go behind the counter where they robbed her of an undetermined amount of currency. Both robbers then fled on foot. The K-9 unit was called in to track the subjects along with a lookout posted to other responding units. A thorough search was conducted, but failed to produce any suspects.
