Kara Elizabeth Clark, daughter of James and Melanie Clark, has been chosen as the Colonel Daniel Appling Chapter NSDAR Good Citizen of 2011. The purpose of the Good Citizen award is to recognize Senior High School students who exemplify the qualities of good citizenship. The student selected as the school’s DAR Good Citizen must exhibit the qualities of dependability (which includes truthfulness, loyalty, and punctuality); Service (which includes cooperation, courtesy and consideration of others); Leadership (which includes personality, self-control and the ability to assume responsibility) and Patriotism (which includes unselfish interest of family, school, community and nation).
Kara possesses and demonstrates these qualities daily. She is an excellent high school student and is valedictorian of the graduating class of 2010/2011. She is an active member of the Beta Club, FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes), Spanish Club, the Key Club, 4-H and the Math Team 9th thru 12th grades. She has also been a cheerleader all four years and a member of Appling Applause Showchoir and Chorus.
Kara also has been involved in many community activities including the Secret Angel Project with the Beta Club and she finds the time to play her violin for residents at the nursing home. She is a member of First Baptist Church and enjoys playing her violin for church services and truly enjoyed her role of Mary, the mother of Jesus, in the Christmas presentation “Walk thru Bethlehem.” Her four years in high school have been extremely busy and it does not sound as though she will slow down when she gets to college. She plans to attend Berry College and play her violin in their orchestra.
Chapter Regent Joyce Tillman and members of the Colonel Daniel Appling DAR congratulates Kara and wish her the best of luck in state competition and her college career.
