Sheriff Benny Deloach would like to report the following activity of the Appling County Sheriff’s Office.
(Sheriff Deloach warns that if you receive any type of email, phone call, letter, etc. stating that you should send money or give out personal information, do not be a victim of this crime! This is a scam! We have also had several reports of people receiving U.S. Postal Money Orders wanting you to cash them and send back part of the money, this is also a scam!)
Sheriff Deloach gives update
May 3, answered a call to Red Oak Road in reference to a theft. A complainant stated someone during the night stole several items valued at $3,000.00 from his business. Investigation continues.
May 9, answered a call to Max Deen Road in reference to a theft. A complainant stated taken from rental property was a hot water heater, air condition unit and ceiling fans. Investigation continues.
May 9, answered a call to San Marco Drive in reference to a burglary. A complainant stated unknown subject came to her vacant house and vandalized the inside and also took $500.00 in cash. Investigation continues.
May 11, answered a call to Eula Courson Road in reference to a civil dispute. Neighbors are disputing over putting a driveway on property.
May 11, answered a call to Lee Woods’s Road in reference to child custody. A complainant stated it was his weekend to have his child, but child was left with a subject that was not allowed to have the child.
May 11, answered a call to Highway 341 in reference to littering. A complainant stated a trespassing sign was torn down and trash dumped on property. Information was retrieved from the trash and the owners of the trash are to be contacted. After investigation, case has been resolved.
May 12, answered a call to Stone Road in reference to drug possession. Investigation resulted in the arrest of Steven Franklin Stone, 25, of Baxley. Stone was charged with possession of drug related objects.
May 13, answered a call to Oscar Tippins in reference to child custody. A complainant stated she and her husband had an agreement for their children to go with their grandparents and return at 9:00 p.m. The complainant stated children did not return until 1:10 a.m.
May, 14, answered a call to Satilla Church Road in reference to domestic shots fired. Investigation resulted in the arrest of Ralph Hendrix, 62, of Baxley, was charged with domestic violence simple battery, and Barbara Hendrix, 59, of Baxley, was charged with aggravated assault.
May 14, answered a call to Duke Street/Surrency in reference to damage to property. A complainant stated a vacant house was broken into, which was used for storage. At the time of report, were unable to tell if any items were missing. Investigation continues.
May 14, Answered a call to Rogers Street in reference to a burglary. A complainant stated someone had pried open the back door to his residence and took a Playstation, three games and $100.00 in change. Investigation continues.
May 15, answered a call to County Farm Road in reference to an unresponsive person. The Appling County EMS arrived and found Janice B. Taylor, 66, to be deceased from apparent natural causes. The Appling EMS personnel released the scene to the coroner.
May 15, answered a call to Appling ER in reference to domestic family violence. A complainant stated she and her ex-husband had a verbal disagreement, which led to an altercation. Cedric Reynolds, 37, of Baxley, was arrested for battery, family violence.
May 15, answered a call to Altman Road in reference to a theft. A complainant stated while away from his residence someone had entered his residence and taken several items valued at $200.00.
May 15, answered a call to Ben Carter Road in reference to damage to property. A complainant stated while away his wife had cut his personal items and moved them from the residence.
May 16, answered a call to Tyre Street/Surrency in reference to a theft. A complainant stated she had visitors at her home and after they left she found her jewelry, valued at approximately $6,400.00, was missing. Investigation resulted in the arrest of Frankie Brianna Williams, 19, of Baxley. Williams was charged with theft by taking.
May 16, answered a call to Miles Landing Road in reference to a burglary. A complainant stated unknown subject(s) entered the residence and took several items valued at $600.00. Investigation continues.
May 16, answered a call to Agnes Williams Road in reference to financial card theft. A complainant stated her debit card had been stolen from her residence and transactions had been made against the card. Investigation continues.
May 16, answered a call to Buck Williams Road in reference to a dispute. The dispute was between a brother and a sister. The brother left the residence before officers arrived.
May 16, an offender, Lewis Kyle Freeman, 29, of Baxley, was arrested by the Baxley Police Department on traffic charges. After an investigation, officers found that Freeman was a known sex offender in Tennessee and had failed to register in this county. Freeman was charged with failure to register as a sex offender, and will be placed on the sex offender registry.
May 17, answered a call on Golden Isles West in reference to a shoplifting. A complainant stated that an offender was trying on clothes and left with a shirt.
May 17, answered a call on Blackshear Highway in reference to a theft. Taken was some scrap metal.
May 17, investigated a one-vehicle accident at the Appling County Recreation Complex. No injuries were reported.
May 17, investigated a one-vehicle accident on U.S. Highway 1 North/West River Road. No injuries were reported.
May 17, a complainant came to the sheriff’s office and reported a scam. The complainant stated that she received an email stating that if she would send $3,000 to the federal government she would receive $150,000 within 24 hours. The complainant did not fall for this scam.
May 17, answered a call to Long Branch Road in reference to a fire. A complainant stated her shelter caught on fire, along with several pieces of farm equipment, chemicals and bean seeds.
