Dear Editor,
These children are not someone wandering out in a pasture hoping someone would haul them some food. Now these children I am referring to are the children attending the Fourth District School and they should have the same equal opportunity as others in the Appling County School System. They should not be singled out to have their meals prepared at one school at Appling County Middle School and hauled out to Fourth District School; 15 miles out one way to carry breakfast – 15 miles back to middle school, get lunch and carry lunch back to Fourth District another 15 miles and then back after lunch another 15 miles. In addition the school system will have to purchase a van and other equipment. Where are the savings? Does that seem like very good judgment? Truthfully it appears more like exerting authority a total of 60 miles per day to haul meals per day. Now this flip-flopping about the warming kitchen at Fourth District School; if it doesn’t work out we can always go back to preparing meals in the kitchen at Fourth District.
Concerned about the children
Well, now if it will, it will need to be brought up to standards like the other part of the remodeled part of the school. Where will the money come from? I must say I strongly do not believe there are any intentions of starting back preparing meals at Fourth District once the warming kitchen has started. Was this a statement made just to get what they want?
One of the board of education members told me that this warming kitchen is not going to work out, and another person said to me there is nothing wrong with that kitchen. Now you board of education members all need to stand up, and speak up for what is right. Consider these children they have had enough taken away from them. They have been disenfranchised enough; too much! At the other schools the children have the privilege of going to their cafeteria and have their meals that are prepared in their own cafeteria. They are not wandering in the pasture waiting on food to be hauled to them. This is a shame and a disgrace.
These children at Fourth District have been deprived more than any other school in the Appling County School System.
1) No principal,
2) No physical education teacher,
3) No media center specialist,
4) Hauling meals.
What else is left to take away?
Now it is my understanding that one school will soon be getting a new media center and these children at Fourth District School have a media center and cannot get into the center when they need to, due to the door being closed. And I do not, and I repeat, I do not mean this to be an intention of negative reflection toward the paraprofessional that goes all over the school for other duties. Is that fair to these children? No, that is to work in the media center. Are you all saving money on this school and spending like wild fire on other schools?
Now when the Quality Assurance Review Team from AdvancED was here March 28, 2012 they visited every school in Appling County, but Fourth District School. The group stayed in Blackshear and passed Fourth District School morning and evening; and did not stop. That seems somewhat strange and hard to believe. So I called the executive person and I was told the Quality Assurance Review Team wanted to visit the top five schools – so Fourth District is the have and have not school. Is it still considered a part of the school system? Or is it no longer considered a part of the school system?
Now that was a slap in the face to the teachers, staff and the children.
Was it that the Quality Assurance Review Team might have gotten a true picture about the disenfranchised status? That statement, No Child Left Behind, well the children out at Fourth District School appear to be pushed out and left behind.
Is Fourth District School the only school in the system that has economic problems? Are all other schools exempt from economic problems?
I talked with one other board member about the situation out at the Fourth District Media Center concerning the doors being closed due to other responsibilities. Not enough help. His reply was for me to find out how many times the doors are closed. I told him about the sixteen students being tutored every Tuesday and Thursday – wanted me to find out how they got the grant for tutoring. That should have been his responsibility to check on that. (Seven students in third grade, six students in 4th grade and three students in 5th grade.)
We Appling Countians were in hopes that when the three new board members got into office we would see a great change. Not so! Board members you all govern the executive; it is not meant for you to be governed.
I understand there will be three BOE members that will be up for reelection. To all registered voters, tax paying citizens please evaluate and ask candidates questions to see if they (he or she) are capable of governing or are they being governed. Think seriously about it, pray about it, ask God to lead and guide you to select the right BOE members. Pray that they will see that each child in this school system will be treated equally and have the same opportunity to receive a great education and be successful.
Fourth District School has gone from a school of excellence to a school of dismantle. From a have to a have not school. The teachers and staff of the Fourth District School need to be highly commended for the struggle they have endured. I pray this coming school term will be better.
Suffer little children, and forbid them not to come unto me; for of such is the kingdom of Heaven. [Matthew 19:14].
But who so shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck and that he were drowned in the depth of the seas. [Matthew 18:9]

It' s nothing personal against the children. It's just good business to cut from a school that doesn't receive the proper funding!

Amen! Stop the complaining. If you would like to donate money to the school I am sure they would take it. Taxpayers had their chance to close it. Oops!
