Other region 2AA playoff action had second seed Pierce County (23-5, 13-3) and fourth seed Brantley County (16-10, 10-6) advance to the second round by sweeping their opponents.
Pierce will now travel to face region 8AA top seed North Oconee (22-5, 15-2) and Brantley County will travel to face region 8AA second seed Hart County (16-10, 11-7).
Game 1
Josh Deen got the start on the mound in the first game of the series. He took the hill hoping to continue his success from his last outing last Saturday in the regular season finale in Savannah against the Calvary Cavaliers.
Deen pitched six innings Friday on his way to a 12-2 six-inning mercy rule victory over the Bulldogs. Deen gave up seven hits but only two earned runs. The victory put his season record at 7-0 with one save and a 1.38 ERA.
The Pirates came out blazing scoring six runs in the first inning on seven hits. The Pirates added three more runs in the fourth to stretch the lead to 9-0 after four innings of play.
The big blow was a two-run homerun by senior Kyle Miller.
The Bulldogs were able to scratch their way to two runs in the top half of the sixth on three hits. The Pirates ended the game via the 10-run mercy rule in the bottom of the sixth by getting three runs on two hits. Final score 12-2 in six innings.
Game 2
After scoring twelve runs on twelve hits in the first game the Pirate bats went cold in the second game. They could only muster five hits in the game but prevailed 4-1.
The Pirates were the visiting team in the second game. They got on the board first in the top of the first. After one out Jeremy Ammons walked, Josh Barber singled. With two outs Gage Patton delivered a two r.b.i. single to right field to plate Ammons and Barber.
The Pirates added a single run in the second and one more in the fifth.
Thomasville scored their lone run in the game in the bottom of the fifth on one hit given up by Pirate starter Jeremy Ammons. Ammons got his fourth win on the year, pitching four innings giving up one run and five hits.
Byron Buxton came on in relief with no outs in the fifth with the bases loaded.
Buxton got out the jam and finished the game on the mound.
