The Appling County Board of Education Held Groundbreaking Ceremonies for the new Pre-K Center located behind Appling County Primary School and for additional classrooms and PE facility at Appling County Middle School on Thursday March 3, 2011. These two projects are being funded by the Educational Special Local Option Sales Tax (ESPLOST) which was approved by local voters in 2007. Both projects have been in the planning stage for some time while logistical issues were being resolved.
The Pre-K Center has been designed using the most current cost saving measures and has been designed and located so that should state funding for Pre-K become an issue in future years the center would still be viable as a functional instructional facility. The Center will have a play area, which will be separate from that of older students but will share meal facilities in an effort to keep costs down. Other facility staff will be shared between the Pre-K Center and Appling County Primary thus further reducing operational costs.
The additions to Appling County Middle School will replace mobile classrooms which have been required at the school for a number of years and will allow all students to be contained within the overall facility and avoid having students go out into the weather to change classes. The PE facility addition will provide an area for students to participate in physical exercise such as weight training and other PE activities.
