School locked down for safety search

The News-Banner received a number of inquiries early today from the public about the Appling County High School being locked down. The following is a statement from Principal Gene Starr:

"A school safety search was conducted today at the Appling County High School by the Altamaha Drug Task Force, Baxley Police Department, and the Appling County Sheriff's Office with assistance by the Chatham County Sheriff's Office K-9 Unit.

Several vehicles were searched as a result of this safety check with minimal violations of the Student Code of Conduct."
