The community is fortunate to have a very active troop here in Baxley/Appling County with dedicated, experienced volunteer leaders. Troop 472 regularly undertakes various community service projects and ongoing character and leadership development activities. These include providing Color Guards for local events, such as the annual Relay for Life, high school graduation, public dedication ceremonies, and community parades. They have also assisted the Arts Council at several recent performances. In addition, the Scouts go camping regularly and travel to fun and interesting places. They have been canoeing in the Okefenokee Swamp, deep sea fishing off the Georgia coast, hiking at Providence Canyon State Park in west Georgia, whitewater rafting in North Carolina, caving in Tennessee, hiking and had snowball battles on the Blue Ridge Parkway, horseback riding, attended the Olustee Civil War battle reenactment in Florida, visited the Georgia Aquarium and Coke World in Atlanta, camped on Sapelo Island off the Georgia coast, and had other adventures in recent years. Any boy 11 years old or who has completed the 5th grade can join. For more information on Boy Scouts, contact Scoutmaster Matt Jones at 367-1522 or any Boy Scout.
Thank you to First Methodist Church and the Baxley/Appling County community for its continued support of Troop 472. Come enjoy a delicious pancake breakfast on Saturday, April 14!
