Allen Bruce Harris “Speed Ball, ” died March 24, 2012 at Appling Healthcare System in Baxley. Allen was born in Sarasota, FL on Jan. 7, 1963 to the late Ernest Harris, Jr. and Juanita Williams Harris. Speed Ball as he was affectionately called was a joy to be around and was always willing to help a friend in need. He attended the Appling County School System. Harris loved life and lived it to its fullest. During his early life he worked as a machine operator at a manufacturing company for a number of years.
In addition to his father he is also preceded in death by his grandparents, Mrs. Tommie Williams, Richard F. Williams, Annie B. Harris and Earnest Harris, Sr.
Survivors include his devoted mother, Juanita Williams Harris of Baxley; one daughter, Sharoder (Donervon) Bonhomme; one son, Jeffery B. Cray; one sister, Lisa Williams of Douglas; one brother, Charles Harris, Sr. (Sylvia) of Baxley; three grandchildren, Sunontia Davis, Shamarcia Bolton and Jakhouviya Cole; one special niece, Shannon Newk; three special nephews, Charles Jr., Pernell and Terrell; special aunt, Barbara Thomas of Baxley; aunts, Elizabeth Walters of Brunswick, Eyonne Harris of Sarasota, FL, Hazel Rivers of Alabama and Uira Garrte of Sarasota, FL; uncles, James Albert (Ida), Williams of Newark, NJ, Horace (Mamie) Williams of Athens, Ronell Williams of Savannah, Jack Harris of Sarasota, FL, and Jonny Harris of Alabama; one special cousin, Sharon Thomas; special friends, Rodney Cox of Baxley, Michael Copeland of Atlanta, Isaiah Barney of Hinesville and Roy Mumford of Baxley along with a host of cousins and friends.
Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, March 30 at Thankful New Jersey Missionary Baptist Church with Minister Starlon Byrd presiding and eulogy given by the Rev. Dr. B. J. Virgil officiating. Interment followed in Blarney Community Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Charles Harris, Jr., Terrell Harris, Rodney Cox, Pernell Harris, Brian Thomas (Snoop), James Williams, Jr. and Curtis Harris.
Honorary pallbearers were Kenny Rooks, Rufus Erwin (Top), Dwight Nails (Pee Wee), Michael Copeland, Maurice Wright, Cedrie Reynolds, Thaddeus Nails, Terry Williams, Marvin Fletcher and Isaiah Barney.
Musical selections were rendered by Carletha Wright, Trenton Drayton and the choir.
Arrangements were under the direction of Brown Funeral Home.
