Copeland stated that she, Board Chairman Minnie Barnes, Board Vice-Chairman Scottie Ammons, Board Attorney Cory Kirby, and Assistant Superintendent Dr. Sandy Dominy met with SACS representatives Dr. Mike Bryans and Jay Winsley recently. As a result of this meeting the school system received suggestions from Bryans and Winsley that should assist the system in regaining full accreditation.
One of the main points of interest from Copeland’s presentation was the fact that a stakeholder committee has been established to assist the system in a number of areas including updating, or revising a system-wide vision and purpose for the Appling County School District. Members of this committee are as follows:
- Each school chose one member of their current school council and one member of their current parent organization to serve on the system stakeholders committee. Selected members included:
ACPS - Barbara Peeler and Paul Rentz; ACES - Danita Hayes and Karen Tillman; AES - Jeffrey Carter and Donia Padgett; FDES - Amy Rediger and Amber Turner; ACMS - Kim Boyette and Kelly Spell; and ACHS
- Janet Patton and Wendy Simmons.
- Community Members included on the stakeholders committee:
Jeff Baxley (City Manager); Lee Lewis (County Manager); Norma Cortes (Chamber of Commerce); and Dr. Esco Hall, and (Development Authority member).
- School SACS/CASI Chairpersons included on the stakeholders committee:
ACPS - Denise Rentz; ACES - Debra Crosby; AES - Rhonda Hollis; FDES - Kandiss Miles; ACMS - Angela Morris; and ACHS - David Williams.
Copeland also reported that the system has been gathering documentation to provide to SACS. She also noted that board members have been given business cards, and on the back of these cards are the system’s chain of command.
