The Colonel Daniel Appling Sword has been purchased and returned to Georgia. We are too late to assist in the purchase. However, there are still some funds that need to be raised. The sword and scabbard need to be rehabilitated. There is also a need for an appropriate display case in the State Capitol. The Appling County Heritage Center would like to get involved. If we can collect $1,000.00 our name will appear on the plaque accompanying the sword. We need your help in order to raise this money.
Daniel Appling Sword Project
If we can collect this amount of money and get our name on the state plaque, we will make our own display in the Appling County Heritage Center. This will consist of a plaque with photos of the sword and a list of contributors. Col. Appling is our county’s namesake and we should be a part of this project. The three ranks of contributions to be listed on our plaque include Major ($100), Captain ($50), and Lieutenant ($25).
Anyone wishing to make a contribution should either mail it to the Appling County Heritage Center, P.O. Box 87, Baxley, GA 31515 or drop it by the Center in person. The deadline to receive contributions is March 31.
