Appling County Sheriff Benny Deloach reports that on January 7, a complainant came to sheriff’s office to report identity theft. The complainant stated she has been receiving bills from a college, which she never attended.
Jan. 7, answered a call to Ray Sapp road in reference to a theft. The complainant stated a family member had taken his chainsaw and pawned it. Owner stated he did not want to press charges as long as he got his chainsaw back.
Jan. 9, answered a call to Simpson Drive in reference to burning rubber tires. The offender was written a citation for violation of burning rubber tires.
Jan. 9, answered a call to Hill Top Road in reference to a theft. A complainant stated two chainsaws were taken from his unlocked building.
Jan. 10, answered a call to Homesville Road Ext./Surrency in reference to a burglary. A complainant stated that the back door to a residence had been pried open and several household items were taken. Also taken was a 2004 Rhino ATV 600 Model. Investigation continues.
Jan. 11, answered a call to Varnadore Lane in reference to an unresponsive person. A wife found her husband, Wardell William Bennett, age 52, unresponsive. Appling EMTs were notified and the responding officer called the coroner.
Jan. 11, a complainant came to sheriff’s office to report that a subject has had his van since June and was going to buy the van but has not, and will not return the van.
Jan. 11, answered a call to Hatch Parkway South in reference to a burglary. The complainant stated his storage unit was opened, and missing was number of items. Investigation continues.
Jan. 11, answered a call to AP Hunter Road in reference to a theft. The complainant stated a bank bag is missing from vehicle.
Jan. 12, answered a call to Creosote road in reference to a home invasion. The complainant stated subjects kicked in the front door, entered the residence, grabbed a person living in the home, hit him with a pistol several times, and as exiting the home, shot a gun several times. The homeowners named possible suspects. Investigation continues.
Jan. 13, a complainant contacted sheriff’s office to report at theft on Wade Aycock Road. A vehicle was parked at a residence and a pistol was found to be missing from inside vehicle. Pistol was entered into GCIC records.
Jan. 13, answered a call to Old Surrency Road in reference to a theft. The complainant stated taken were a dryer and stove valued at approximately $250.00.
Jan. 14, answered a call to Nails Ferry Road. The complainant stated a subject borrowed several items valued at approximately $1,000.00. The subject will not return the items.
