Next Tuesday, March 6, the Presidential Preference Primary will be held in Georgia. Equally as important to Appling Countians as selecting the nominee for President is a vote on the Education Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (ESPLOST) for Appling County Schools.
As stated last week, the state continues to cut education funding and ESPLOST has become a vital aspect for the local system’s budgeting process. Through ESPLOST, the system is able to fund items such as renovations, textbooks and even school buses. Otherwise these items would be funded through other forms of taxation such as ad valorem (or property taxes).
The News-Banner believes that sales and use taxation is the fairest form of taxation. Everyone chips in when taxable items are purchased in our community, even people from other communities help out when they purchase items in Appling.
We encourage to get out and vote “Yes” to continue ESPLOST in Appling.
