Sheriff Benny Deloach reports that on February 24, deputies with the Appling County Sheriff’s Department investigated a one-vehicle accident on Red Oak Road. Upon arrival, officers found that James Gregory Morris, 52, of Baxley, had run off the roadway resulting in a fatality.
The accident has been turned over to the Georgia State Patrol for further investigation.
Other incidents
On Feb. 17, answered a call on Fire Tower Road in reference to harassment. A complainant stated that the offender had been harassing him and his family.
Feb. 17, answered a call on Post Road in reference to a civil matter. The complainant was referred to the magistrate judge.
Feb. 17, investigated a one-vehicle accident on GA Highway 4. No injuries reported.
Feb. 17, answered a call on Bud Miles Road in reference to a domestic dispute. The complainant stated that the offender was drinking and threatening to shoot her. The incident continued to escalate and the offender, James Nelson Ewing, 63, of Baxley, was arrested and charged with terroristic threats and acts and disorderly conduct.
Feb. 17, answered a call on Old Surrency Road in reference to damage to property. An unknown person threw a cement block making a hole in the trashcan.
Feb. 18, answered a call on Alma Lane in reference to a theft. Taken was a Polaris 425cc four-wheeler, red in color. Investigation continues.
Feb. 18, answered a call on Lake Mayers Road in reference to damage to property. The complainant stated that the offender came on her property and slashed the front right tire on her 1998 F-150 and took a suitcase full of children’s clothing.
Feb. 19, answered a call on Terrace Drive in reference to a theft. Taken were a 52-inch Polaroid T.V., a 42-inch Toshiba T.V., $4000 in cash, and two vacuum cleaners. Investigation revealed false information was given; TV’s were not stolen. The case is still under investigation.
Feb. 20, answered a call to Zoar Road in reference to harassing phone calls. The complainant stated her ex-boyfriend continues to harass her.
Feb. 21, answered a call to Phelps Road in reference to a theft. A complainant stated taken from the residence were several items valued at approximately $2,000.00. Investigation has led to the arrest of Matthew Robin Thompson, 24, of Callahan, FL, and Tyler Madison Griffin, 18, Baxley. Both were charged with theft.
Feb. 21, answered a call to Golden Isles East in reference to an abandoned vehicle. The vehicle was left for several days unattended. After notification to the owner, due to a safety hazard, the vehicle was towed.
Feb. 21, answered a call to Satilla Church Road in reference to a theft. A complainant stated taken from the residence was an air condition unit. No value or make of the air condition was given.
Feb. 22, answered a call to Vernon William Road in reference to a theft. The complainant stated an unknown person(s) cut the electricity to the air condition unit and removed it from the residence. The value of the unit is approximately $1,500.00. Investigation continues.
Feb. 22, answered a call to Hill Top Road in reference to an affray. A complainant and sister had a verbal dispute, which led to an altercation. The complainant was advised she could press charges.
Feb. 22, answered a call to Vernon Williams Road in reference to harassing phone calls. The complainant was advised to see the magistrate judge if charges are to be pursued.
Feb. 22, answered a call to private property off of Cauley Road in reference to an injured subject. The victim who works for a logging company was attempting to push a piece of wood under a tire, when the tire pulled his leg under the tire, leaving the weight of the truck on the victim’s leg. The Appling EMS arrived and transported the victim to the Bacon County Hospital for medical treatment.
Feb. 23, answered a call to Buck Head Road in reference to a one-vehicle accident. The Appling EMS responded and took the driver to the Appling ER for medical treatment due to injuries.
Feb. 23, answered a call to Lee Woods Road in reference to a theft. A complainant stated a subject came to her property loaded her scrap metal in a truck and left with it without her permission. Investigation continues.
Feb. 26, on Sunday morning at 10:01, 911 Dispatch received a call to respond to Ezra Lane. After an investigation by the sheriff’s office and coroner, it was determined that Edon Cray died of natural causes.
Feb. 26, on Sunday night at 6:40, 911 Dispatch received a call in reference to a shooting at Milton Sellers Road in Graham. Upon investigation it was determined that Kelby Studstill, Alfred Clemons and Kenneth Ellerbee were involved in a fight. Ellerbee discharged a firearm during the fight. No one was injured from the gun fire. Elberee is to be charged with aggravated assault. Studstill and Clemons are charged with affray.
