The Appling County Pirate basketball team ended the 2011-2012 season losing to Region 1AA top seeded Albany (24-2 overall) 75-100 in the first round of the state playoffs on Saturday, February 25. Albany is also ranked number three in the State AA Coaches Poll.
Leading scorers for the Pirates were Kevin Johnson 19 points, Ibn Sumner 17 points, Ronald Handsome 17 points, Heisman Johnson 10 points, Tobias Hagins and Anthony Rayner 3 points each, Leshawn Mobley and Anthony Gibbs 2 points each.
The Pirates were the number four seed from Region 2AA and finish the season with a record of 15-13 overall while finishing 8-8 in region play.
The only team from Region 2AA to win in the first round was top seeded Vidalia (25-3) who defeated Region 1AA four seed Cook County (18-10) 70-64. Vidalia is ranked number seven in the State AA Coaches Poll.
The Indians will play Region 3AA third seed Dodge County (19-7) in the second round.
Other Region 2AA team results were second seed Long County (18-9) losing to Region 1AA third seed Early County (23-6) 75-77 and Region 2AA third seed Toombs County (10-12) losing to Region 1AA second seed Thomasville (19-7) 36-51.
