The Appling County Pirate wrestling team had six to qualify for the State AA Wrestling Tournament held February 16 through February 18.
The Pirate wrestlers and their weight classes were, wrestling in the 106 pound class was sophomore Marquez Thomas, wrestling in the 113 pound class was sophomore Kaleb Nail, wrestling in the 126 pound class was senior Chase Johnson, wrestling in the 145 pound class was sophomore Demarco Dixon, wrestling in the 152 pound class was junior Ian Carter and wrestling in the 220 pound class was senior Emmanuel Ryan.
The top winner for the Pirates was Chase Johnson who finished in sixth place in the 126 pound class.
The Pirate team placed 29th overall out of the 58 teams with a score of 20.50 and was the third highest out of Region 2AA behind Toombs which placed 10th overall with 59.00 points and Jeff Davis which placed 23rd overall with a score of 27.50. Other Region 2AA teams were Pierce County placing 33rd overall with a score of 10.00, McIntosh County Academy placing 35th overall with a score of 8.00, Vidalia placing 41st overall with a score of 5.00 and Brantley County placing in a tie for 53rd with a score of 0.00.
