Sheriff Benny DeLoach would like to report the following activity of the Appling County Sheriff’s Office.
Jan. 25, a routine traffic stop on Brobston/Penniman Street resulted in the arrest of Rodney Dewayne Hall, 26, of Hazlehurst. Hall was charged with two counts obstruction of an officer and a seatbelt violation.
Jan. 27, the Appling County Sheriff’s Office and the Fourth District Fire Department responded to a vacant mobile home on John Herndon Road, Surrency. The mobile home was completely destroyed.
Sheriff Deloach gives update
Jan. 27, a complainant came to the sheriff’s office to report a theft that occurred in 2002. The complainant stated she had learned that child support checks that were mailed to her in 2002 had been received and cashed by an unknown subject. Investigation continues.
Jan. 27, a routine traffic stop on Luckie Street resulted in the arrest of Shari Lynn Sanford, 47, of Hazlehurst. Sanford was charged with driving without license on person, possession of marijuana, D.U.I. /drugs, drugs to be kept in original container.
Jan. 29, answered a call to Russell Road in reference to damage to property. A complainant stated someone had busted out a window to his residence with a golf club.
Jan. 29, answered a call to Buckhead Road in reference to a child custody Dispute. A complainant stated her ex-husband did not return her children on the time that was designated.
Jan. 29, after an ongoing investigation on a child molestation that occurred on Dewitt Graham Road, Andy Ring, Jr., was arrested and charged with felony child molestation. Ring is currently in the Wayne County Jail.
Jan. 29, officers were advised to do a welfare check on children located on Oscar Tippins Road. The officers found parent with one child and the house in very good condition.
Jan. 30, answered a call to Highway 144 in reference to an injured person. A complainant stated subject blacked out and fell from a chair. The Appling EMS responded and transported the victim to the Appling Emergency Room for treatment. Investigation determined injury to victim was accidental.
Jan. 30, answered a call to Falling Rocks Campground in reference to damage to property. Juveniles were found tearing up two picnic tables to make skateboard ramps. The juveniles were found and juvenile complaint forms were completed. The juveniles are to appear in juvenile court for charges.
Jan. 30, answered a call to Truck & Trailer Service in reference to theft in progress. A complainant found a subject loading items from his storage building. Clinton Carl Crapps, 39, of Baxley, was arrested and charged with theft by taking and criminal trespass.
Jan. 31, a complainant came to the sheriff’s office to report a theft/forgery. The complainant stated a subject had taken jewelry and checks, forged his name and cashed the checks. Thomas Alvin Leggett, 24, of Baxley, was arrested and charged with burglary, four counts of forgery in the first degree and giving false statements.
Jan. 31, answered a call to Clemons Lane/Graham in reference to a peeping Tom incident. A complainant stated a subject was found looking in her window by her nine-year-old daughter. After an investigation, James Milton Bates, 30, of Baxley, was arrested and charged with peeping Tom. Bates is on the sex offender registry and being held without bond.
Jan. 31, answered a call to Gardner Road in reference to a domestic dispute. A complainant stated her boyfriend got mad with her and hit her in the face. Octavio Ruiz Velaquez, 28, of Baxley, was arrested and charged with simple battery.
Jan. 31, answered a call to Pretty Ford Road in reference to a car fire. The driver stated his vehicle caught on fire and the County Farm Fire Department responded and put the fire out. The vehicle was completely destroyed.
Jan. 31, answered a call to Hatch Parkway South in reference to a theft. A complainant stated an unknown person(s) had taken an air condition unit, tools and several items from her shop building. Investigation continues.
Feb. 1, answered a call to Miles Chapel Church Road in reference to a theft. A complainant stated an unknown person(s) took her 2.5-ton air condition, and approximately 75-feet of ground wire. Investigation continues.
Feb. 1, answered a call to Quincey Lane in reference to damage to property. A complainant stated the tenant of one of his rental houses had damaged the house.
Feb. 1, answered a call to Cauley Road in reference to a dispute. A complainant stated a man driving a County motor grader had hit him with the machine because of an argument about the dirt road. Investigation continues.
Feb. 1, answered a call to Branch Road in reference to a peeping Tom. A complainant stated she had seen her neighbor looking in her window with binoculars. The officer talked with neighbor and stated he was looking at the pond and woods.
Feb. 1, answered a call to Red Oak Road in reference to a dispute. A complainant and her husband had a dispute over their children. The husband had left the residence before the officer arrived.
Feb. 2, answered a call to Tillman Lane in reference to a missing dog. A complainant stated his dog has been missing for approximately a month. The complainant stated he thought he had found his dog in someone else’s possession.
Officer and complainant went to residence and found he was mistaken.
Feb. 2, answered a call to Hardwick Road in reference to damage to property. A complainant stated her ex-husband tried to gain entry to her residence by forcing the door open.
Feb. 4, answered a call to Zoar Road in reference to an unresponsive subject.
Upon arrival subject was unresponsive. Appling EMS transported Rachel Fowler, 40, to Appling ER where she was pronounced DOA. The coroner was notified.
After an investigation of a child molestation, Winston Johnson, 68, was arrested and charged with two counts of child molestation. Johnson is being held without bond.
