Sheriff Benny DeLoach would like to report the following activity of the Appling County Sheriff’s Office.
On February 16, answered a call to Post Road in reference to a theft. A complainant stated a subject took an assortment of scrap metal from her property. Investigation revealed the identity of the subject that took the scrap metal. Complainant stated she did not want to press charges.
Feb. 16, answered a call to Highway 15 in reference to damage to property. A complainant stated as she passed a big truck, a rock struck her windshield causing damage.
Feb. 16, a routine traffic stop on Brobston Street resulted in the arrest of Ashley Nicole Newsome, age 23, of Baxley. Newsome was charged with drugs to be kept in original container, and VGCSA/Xanax and oxycodone.
Feb. 17, answered a call to Sandy Road in reference to a domestic. A subject was served a temporary protective order by Appling County Deputies and the subject became very irate. Robbie Shane Smith, age 33, of Baxley, was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct.
Feb. 17, answered a call to Dubberly Road in reference to a dog case. A complainant stated neighbor’s dog attacked her dog leaving several bite marks to her dog.
Feb. 18, answered a call to Ellis Road in reference to a domestic dispute. A father and a stepson had a verbal disagreement. Upon arrival of the officer, the stepson agreed to leave the residence.
Feb. 18, answered a call to Old Blackshear Highway in reference to a theft. A complainant stated an unknown person had taken a pistol from his vehicle that was parked at his residence. Investigation continues.
Feb. 18, a routine traffic stop on U.S. Highway 1 resulted in the arrest of Marion Keith Williford, age 41, of Vidalia, and Cindy Ann Hand, age 39, of Baxley. Williford was charged with driving while license withdrawn, seatbelt violation, DUI-second, open container in vehicle, and possession of marijuana. Hand was charged with open container in vehicle, and VGCSA/crack cocaine.
Feb. 18, answered a call to Piney Bluff Road in reference to a fire. A complainant was burning a pasture when a fire got out of control and burnt several pieces of surrounding properties.
Feb. 18, answered a call to Gardner Road in reference to financial identity fraud. A complainant stated while checking his bank balance online he found a subject had charged his account for an item he did not purchase.
Feb. 19, answered a call to Ten Mile Road in reference to damage to property. The complainant stated while his track hoe was parked in the woods behind his residence, an unknown person shot the windows three times.
Feb. 19, answered a call to Edsel Smith Road in reference to a child custody dispute. The complainant was advised to see her attorney.
Feb. 19, answered a call to Nails Ferry Road in reference to a death investigation. Kimberly Thomas Griffin, age 33, of Baxley, was found unresponsive at her residence. Coroner George W. O’Quinn was notified.
Feb. 19, answered a call to Pickett Road in reference to an unresponsive subject. Donnie Henry Conley, age 54, of Baxley was found unresponsive at his residence. Coroner George W. O’Quinn was notified and case was turned over to him. No foul play was suspected.
Feb. 20, a routine traffic stop on Highway 341/Surrency resulted in the arrest of Lennon Fredrick, Jr., age 47, of Baxley. Fredrick was charged with driving while license withdrawn, obstruction of police officer, speeding and taillights required.
Feb. 21, the Appling County Sheriff’s Office assisted the Georgia State Patrol to an accident on Zoar/Prentiss Road. No injuries were reported.
Feb. 21, answered a call to Golden Isles West in reference to damage to property. A complainant stated a subject driving her vehicle spun gravel causing rocks to put a dent into his car and also cracked a window to his residence.
Feb. 21, answered a call to Pat Lewis Road in reference to a Domestic Dispute. A boyfriend and a girlfriend were having a verbal altercation. The girlfriend was asked to leave residence.
Feb. 22, answered a call to Brenda Kay Yawn in reference to trespass. A complainant stated a male subject was seen running from his shop. No items were missing.
Feb. 22, answered a call to Highway 144/Dunham Lane in reference to suicide threats. The subject stated he may do harm to himself. The subject was taken to Appling Healthcare ER for evaluation.
Feb. 22, answered a call to Deen’s Landing Road in reference to runaway juveniles. Two male juveniles left Baxley Wilderness without permission, got into a canoe and paddled canoe to Toombs County. The juveniles were located and turned back over to Appling County Deputies. The Department of Juvenile Justice was notified and both subjects were sent to Claxton RYDC.
Feb. 22, answered a call to Red Dot Road in reference to harassing phone calls. A complainant stated a known subject continues to call her house and harass her.
Feb. 23, Appling County Sheriff’s Deputies recovered a stolen vehicle located on Overstreet Road, Bristol. The vehicle had been stolen from Valdosta. James Michael Hammond, age 32, of Whitney, Texas, was apprehended and placed into custody for Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office.
Feb. 23, a routine traffic stop on Ben Carter/Lennox Road resulted in the arrest of John Wesley Roach, age 49, of Baxley. Roach was charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug related object.
Feb. 23, a routine traffic stop on Surrson Street resulted in the arrest of Venis Lamar Mims, age 23, of Baxley. Mims was charged with possession of marijuana and failure to dim headlights.
Feb. 24, answered a call to Dolly Lane in reference to an overdose. A mother of two small children took an over dose of a prescription drug. The mother was taken to Appling ER. The DFAC’s was notified in connection with the children.
Feb. 24, a complainant came to the sheriff’s office to report a domestic dispute. A girlfriend broke up with her boyfriend and he is now destroying items in the house.
Feb. 24, answered a call to Sweet Water Drive in reference to a fire at the Pellet Plant. The Baxley and Graham Fire Departments responded to the fire. Material had caught fire on the top floor of the building. Fire was put under control before major damage was done.
Feb. 24, answered a call to Wayne Jones Road in reference to harassment.
A complainant stated a subject has made threats to her life by phone.
Feb. 24, a complainant came to sheriff’s office to report identity theft. The complainant stated she has been receiving bills from a company stating she owes over $3,000.00 for schooling. The complainant stated she has never gone to school. Investigation continues.
Feb. 24, answered a call to Donnie Lewis Lane in reference to a domestic dispute. A mother and a daughter had a verbal altercation. The daughter left the residence.
Feb. 25, answered a call to Gene Road in reference to a domestic dispute.
A husband and wife had an altercation. The wife left the residence.
Feb. 25, answered a call to Kennedy Road in reference to damage to property. The complainant stated her boyfriend came to her residence physically abused her, threw items in the yard and cut up her clothes. The subject had left the residence before officers arrived.
