The local branch of the NAACP of Appling is pleased to announce that Ms. Nettie M. Smith will serve as the Grand Marshal for the 2012 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Parade. Often viewed as a pillar of our community, she is full of energy, bold, outspoken and always on time. She is truly a jewel to her family, church and community and is the one that many people look up to and respect. Ms. Nettie is a God fearing, God-loving Christian and shows it in every aspect of her life by taking care of the ones around her by cooking, praying, visiting the sick, and even sharing the little money she gets from her not so large income. She’s there every time you need her, and can be called anytime day or night. It is for these reasons we gladly name Nettie M. Smith 2012 MLK Grand Marshal.

Please join us for the Grand Marshal reception in her honor to be held on January 14, at the Parker-Harrell Social Hall, and on January 16 for the annual MLK parade. Parade line-up begins at Northside Park at 1:00 p.m. with the parade beginning at 2:00 p.m.
