Sheriff Benny Deloach reports the following incidents handled by deputies with the Appling County Sheriff’s Department.
On December 15, deputies answered a call to Hwy. 341 West, in Graham, in reference to damage to property. A cotton picker had torn down some phone lines.

Dec. 16, answered a call to Sandy Road in reference to a domestic. Jeremy Ryan Shumans, age 17, of Baxley, was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct.
Dec. 16, answered a call to Hutcheson Road in reference to a fight. Two subjects were found to have been fighting, and both were taken to Appling ER for treatment. Both were given citations for affray.
Dec. 17, answered a call to Vernon Williams Road in reference to a civil dispute. A husband and wife had a dispute and were advised to seek an attorney.
Dec. 17, a complainant came to sheriff’s office to report a theft. The complainant stated someone had taken two 50-foot leads from his Miller welder. Investigation continues.
Dec. 18, answered a call to John Lewis Lane in reference to harassing phone calls. The complainant stated a subject has called her hundreds of times harassing her. Complainant was advised to see the magistrate judge.
Dec. 19, answered a call to Hwy. 15 South in reference to an abandoned vehicle. The vehicle, which had no tag, was found left several days on the side of the road. A wrecker service towed vehicle.
Dec. 19, answered a call to Norman Urssery Road in reference to a theft. The complainant stated two four wheelers valued at $7,000.00 were taken from his property. Investigation continues.
Dec. 19, answered a call to Ten Mile Road/Fire Tower Road in reference to subjects walking in the roadway. Kerry Deon Kinsey, age 18, of Baxley, was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana.
Dec. 20, answered a call to Holt Rentz Road in reference to an abandoned vehicle. The vehicle was found in the roadway with no tag. The vehicle posed a safety hazard to the public and was towed by a wrecker service.
Dec. 20, answered a call to Buck Head Road in reference to a house fire. The County Farm Fire Department responded to house fire, along with an Appling Deputy. The victim stated the fire apparently started from the Christmas tree plug.
Dec. 21, answered a call to Arbor Drive in reference to a domestic. A girlfriend and boyfriend had a verbal dispute. The boyfriend left the residence before officers arrived.
Dec. 21, answered a call to Crosby Street in reference to a theft. A door was pried open to a warehouse. Taken were several items valued at approximately $17,125.00. Investigation revealed Robert Wheeler had taken the items. Wheeler was arrested and charged with three counts of theft by taking and criminal trespass.
Dec. 22, answered a call to Melton’s Chapel Church Road in reference to a one-vehicle accident. The driver fled the scene and the vehicle was towed.
Dec. 22, answered a call to Holt Rentz Road in reference to a theft. The complainant stated taken from the residence was a Browning Rifle with scope, valued at $1,500.00. The complainant stated no force entry was noticed. Investigation continues.
Dec. 22, answered a call to US Highway 1 in reference to a theft. The complainant stated a red box blade, with four extendable teeth and valued at $700.00 was stolen. Investigation continues.
Dec. 22, a routine traffic stop on Manning Williams Road resulted in the arrest of Grant Parker Shumans, age 23, of Baxley. Shumans was charged with drugs to be kept in original container and open container in vehicle.
Dec. 22, a complainant came to sheriff’s office to report a theft on Ollif Thornton Road. The complainant stated family members took, without her permission, several items from her father’s house.
Dec. 22, answered a call to Gardner Road in reference to a dispute. Two subjects had a dispute over a pistol. The pistol was taken into custody until proper documentation can prove who is the owner of the pistol.
Dec. 23, answered a call to Beaver Road in reference to a civil matter. The complainant wanted to evict subjects from a recently purchased house. Complainant was advised to contact magistrate judge.
Dec. 24, answered a call to Coot Jones Street in reference to damage to property. The complainant stated an unknown person(s) damaged a glass-top table.
Dec. 24, answered a call to Dean Hill Drive in reference to a domestic. A husband and wife had a confrontation. Michael Todd Nadeau, age 36, of Baxley, was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct.
Dec. 24, answered a call to Buck Williams Road in reference to a domestic/civil matter. An ex-Boyfriend and girlfriend had a dispute over ownership of several items.
Dec. 24, answered a call to assist Jeff Davis County on a traffic stop. The Appling K-9 Unit searched the vehicle and a clear plastic bag containing what was believed to be crack cocaine was found. The Jeff Davis unit took over the case.
De. 25, answered a call to Hatch Parkway South in reference to a burglary. A window at Appling Christian Academy was broken, and unknown subjects entered the school. Several items were damaged, but nothing appeared to be missing.
Dec. 26, answered a call to Savannah Way in reference to a burglary. The complainant stated an unknown person(s) had broken into his mobile home and taken several items. Investigation continues.
Dec. 26, a complainant came to sheriff’s office to report a theft/missing dog. The complainant stated someone had taken his bulldog from his house on Alpine Drive. The dog answers to Dixie and there is a reward if someone finds
the dog.

Dec. 26, answered a cal to Dewitt Thornton Road in reference to a theft. The complainant stated about 250 pounds of pecans were stolen from his pecan orchard. Investigation continues.
Dec. 26, answered a call to V.P. Lynch road in reference to a theft. The complainant stated two subjects were on his property and tried to take his scrap metal. Chester Paul Sherman, age 28, and Fred Wilson, age 55, both of Baxley were arrested and charged with theft by taking.
Dec. 26, answered a call to West Parker Street in reference to threats. A complainant stated her boyfriend threatened her. The boyfriend stated his girlfriend had made threats toward him. Both subjects were advised to see the magistrate judge if they wished to file charges against each other.
Dec. 27, answered a call to Poor Robin Road in reference to an unresponsive subject. Appling EMT’s responded and found no pulse on the subject. The coroner was called and Mr. Phil M. Jenkins, Sr., age 85, of Baxley, was pronounced deceased of natural causes.
Dec. 27, answered a call to Cray Road in reference to a domestic. An ex-boyfriend and girlfriend had an altercation. The girlfriend left the residence before officer arrived.
Dec. 27, answered a call to Nails Ferry road in reference to an unruly subject. The complainant stated an unruly subject was at her residence and would not leave her residence. Thomas Peyton Miles, age 48, of Baxley, was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct.
Dec. 27, answered a call to Alpine Drive in reference to a domestic. A complainant stated she and her boyfriend had a dispute, which led to a physical altercation. The complainant stated she did not want to press charges.
Dec. 27, answered a call to Vernon Williams Road in reference to harassment. The complainant stated her ex-boyfriend continues to harass her. She was advised to seek a good behavior warrant.
Dec. 28, answered a call to Eula Courson Road in reference to a burglary. The complainant stated someone forced open her back door and took money from her child’s piggy bank. Possible suspects are under investigation.
Dec. 27, answered a call to Holt Rentz Road in reference to a theft. The complainant stated someone had stolen two dirt bikes. The bikes were recovered.
David Troy O’Quinn, age 36, Wesley Glynn Rentz, age 28, and Benjamin Roy Burton, age 37, all of Baxley were arrested and charged with theft by taking.
Dec. 27, answered a call to Bowen Road in reference to a theft. Unknown persons went to the property of CAB Enterprises and took items valued at approximately $5,000.00. Benjamin Burton and Wesley Rentz were charged with theft by taking.
Dec. 28, answered a call to James Kent Road in reference to a civil matter. The complainant stated a subject was attempting to take her chickens and cages. The subject stated the reason for taking the chickens was because they were not being fed or given water.
Dec. 28, a routine traffic stop on Hwy. 15 resulted in the arrest of Nicholas Peoni, age 29, of Indiana. Peoni was charged with possession of marijuana, no seatbelt and expired registration.
Dec. 27, answered a call to Kennedy Road in reference to a domestic. A boyfriend and girlfriend had an altercation. Shelton Edward Hatten, age 32, of Baxley was arrested and charged with battery.
