I recently experienced a truly eye-opening situation when an acquaintance rode with me to a neighborhood retailer. Interestingly enough, for the entire drive to the store, the gentleman (I’ll simply call Bob) complained incessantly about the fact he’d injured himself while working in his yard. The account detailed what amounted to a minor incident in which he’d sustained what I interpreted as a scratch on his right leg.

His deep bass voice set many of my suitors’ hearts atremble with fear and most of them left rather quickly. Daddy was an honorable man. Appling County native, James A. Kent, was drafted into the U.S. Army in January of 1968, to serve in the Vietnam War. During his time with the Army, Mr. Kent served in active combat from 1968-1969, experiencing combat in and around The Iron Triangle, Mitchell Rubber Plantation, Trang Bang, Hoc Mon Bridge, Cu Chi, Dau Tieng, and around the Cambodian Border.

On Tuesday, June 14, the Appling County Board of Education met with Superintendent Scarlett Copeland and the public at 6:00pm. The meeting was called to order by Chair Stewart Reeves and the invocation was led by Board Member Jeffery Miller. Dr. Copeland gave her monthly Superintendent’s Report, which included a PowerPoint presentation about STEM camp, Georgia’s new social studies standards and the progress of this year’s summer school program. She also reported that the November 2016 General Election ballot would include an opportunity for citizens to vote regarding the State’s Opportunity School District. On June 6, answered a call to Williams Drive in reference to damage to property. The complainant stated a family member had made ruts in her yard by spinning wheels and also damaged her lawnmower. Complainant does not want this family member to return to her property.
