Napoleon Bryant, Sr.
Napoleon Bryant, Sr., died on Friday, November 1, 2013 at the Lumber City Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Lumber City surrounded by loving family and friends. He was born to the late Walter Bryant and Kate Blaine Bryant on Tuesday, June 16, 1925 in Nicholls. Deacon Bryant was a faithful member of the Thankful New Jersey Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and member of the choir. He was a U.S. Army veteran and served his country honorably and with distinction.

Carolyn Reynolds Roberson
Miles-Nobles Funeral Home announces the death of Carolyn Reynolds Roberson, 57, who passed away November 3, 2013 at her daughter’s residence in Richmond Hill after an extended illness. She was a native of Appling County, a seamstress and a member of Friendship Congregational Christian Church. She was a wonderful cook and a loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend.

Pirates win Region 1-AAA Championship

The Appling County Pirates (8-2 Overall, 7-0 Region 1-AAA) hosted the Southeast Bulloch Yellow Jackets (7-2-1, 5-2) on Friday, November 8. The Pirates were able to get the win 42-21 and win the Region 1-AAA championship for 2013. The Pirates will host region 3-AAA fourth seed Dodge County (4-6, 1-3) on Friday, November 15 at Jimmy Swain Stadium with the game scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m. [Full Story »]

Police stop vehicle taken from Emanuel
The following are highlights of incidents that were handled by the officers of the Baxley Police Department over the past several days.
On Sept. 28 at approximately 8:26 a.m., stopped a 1996 Ford F150 on U.S. Highway 1. The stop was a result of a lookout from Emanuel County in reference to a person taking the truck without permission. Officers detained the driver, Randy Scott Henry, 44, of Norcross, without incident and impounded the truck. Both the truck and the subject were later released to authorities from Emanuel County. Third Annual Christmas in the Park Community Wide Church Service planned for December 4
The City of Baxley and the Baxley-Appling County Chamber of Commerce invite all local churches to attend and participate in a community wide Christmas celebration to be held at Water Works Park on Wednesday, December 4, at 6:00 p.m. The goal of this service is to bring all members of our community together to celebrate the meaning of Christmas.

Fall fitness run November 23
The Fall Fitness Run will be held on Saturday morning, November 23, at the Elementary Complex in Baxley. The purpose of the Fall Fitness Run is to encourage and motivate people of all ages to improve their fitness. Walking and/or jogging makes you feel good! Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. The starting time for the mile is 8:30 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. for the 5k. A t-shirt will be given to all participants.

Sealed bids will be received for the “Baxley Downtown Streetscape, Phase II in the City of Baxley,” in the Baxley City Hall, Baxley, Georgia, until 11:00 A.M. (Local Time), Tuesday, November 19, 2013, at which time they will be publicly opened and read.
The work under this Contract will consist generally of the following:
Demolition of existing sidewalks, ± 0.145 miles of leveling and resurfacing; ± 577 SY of concrete sidewalk; ± 1000 LF of 6” x 24” concrete curb and gutter; ± 525 SF brick pavers; ± 32 CY of Class B pavement widening; irrigation, landscaping, and all appurtenances for a complete project.
All work on the Project must be completed within 180 consecutive calendar days of date of notice to proceed.
Bid shall be submitted on Bid Proposal Forms furnished for that purpose, in accordance with the Contract Documents and the Plans and Specifications, which are on file and may be reviewed at the office of the City Manager and the office of Hofstadter and Associates, Inc., Consulting Engineers, 4571 Arkwright Road, Macon, Georgia 31210.
