Chief James Godfrey introduced newly hired police officers to the council members at the regular Baxley City Council meeting held October 22. Godfrey introduced Jamie C. Dyal and Scarlett Dubberly, the most recently hired officers of the Baxley Police Department and then introduced Terry Reynolds, who has been with the department for almost a year. [Full Story »] 

Sheriff reports multiple thefts

Sheriff Benny Deloach would like to report the following activity of the Appling County Sheriff’s Office.

Oct. 18, answered a call to Old Surrency Road in reference to a theft. A complainant stated taken from his property was a hot water heater and water tank, valued at $250.00. Investigation continues. [Full Story »]

Sheriff Benny Deloach would like to report the following activity of the Appling County Sheriff’s Office.

On Oct. 12, answered a call to Gardenia Circle in reference to a missing juvenile. A grandmother reported her grandchild left the residence the night before and had not returned. The juvenile was found and DFACS was notified. [Full Story »] 

Board of Education to rework baseball field

The Appling County Board of Education (BOE) held their regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, October 15 and during the meeting voted unanimously to approve the low bid of $21,400.00 from Red Oak Turf to rework the baseball field due to drainage problems. County to purchase lake for $750,000

Following an executive session to discuss real estate at a called meeting held October 16, the Appling County Board of Commissioners voted unanimously to move forward with the purchase of Dunn’s Lake (also known as Lake Tara) for $750,000.00 from Tara Lake Inc. and Kathy Deen. The purchase would include the 50-acre lakebed along with two additional acres, which includes a boat ramp. [Full Story »]
