Marty Davis, 55, of Lincoln, NE, passed away on Sunday, October 21, 2012. Marty was born on Feb. 21, 1957 in Alma, to Martin and Myrtice (Hall) Davis. He was a 1975 graduate of Appling County High School and was currently working for Northwest Electric of Lincoln, NE as Supervisor of Sales for the past 11 years. [Full Story »]

Missionary Patricia Ann Mobley was born Dec. 29, 1957, to Josie B. Wilson and the late Sherman Usher in Lyons. On Oct. 29, 2012, she gave up this earthly abode to live with Jesus in His Eternal Kingdom.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman M. Mobley, Jr., a daughter, LaRoysha Yvette Mobley and three sisters, Kate Sanders Mann, Linda Usher and Ruby Usher. [Full Story »] 

Marvin James Pollette, 49, passed away Friday, November 9, at Appling Health Care System after a sudden illness. He was a native and lifelong residence of Appling County and a member of the 1982 Appling County High School graduating class. He loved Nascar Racing and wrestling and was an excellent lawn mower mechanic. [Full Story »]

The Appling County Pirates (8-1-1 Overall, 6-1 Region 1-AAA) traveled to face the Southeast Bulloch Yellow Jackets (4-6, 2-5) on Friday, November 9 with the Pirates winning the regular season finale 43-30.

The Pirates will be the second seed from Region 1-AAA and will host Region 4-AAA third seed Rockmart (5-5, 4-3) in the first round of the GHSA State Playoffs on Friday, November 16 at Jimmy Swain Stadium with the game scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m. [Full Story »] 

Last Tuesday proved to be a good election for incumbents on the local level and nationally. The November 6 General Election also motivated a good numbers of voters to get out and cast ballots as 65 percent of Appling County’s registered votes voted. There are 10,955 registered voters in Appling and 7,144 cast ballots. [Full Story »]

The Appling County Board of Commissioners held their regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, November 6, at the Appling County Courthouse Annex. During the meeting the Commissioners unanimously approved the road resurface list to be paid for by the Local Maintenance and Improvement Grant (LMIG). The following is the list of the roads, or portions of roadway, that consists of approximately two miles in each district: District One - George Craven Road; District Two - Ellis Road, Nails Ferry Road, and Donnie Lewis Lane; District Three - Norwood Street, Duke Street, Burkett Street, South Main Street, Alderman Street, and Holmesville Extension; District Four - Poor Robin Road, and Bobby Morris Road; and District Five - Campground Road, Prentiss Road, and County Farm Extension. The Appling County High School Pirate Brigade has enjoyed a very successful fall marching season with their show ‘A Pirate’s Life’. The students and staff have worked extremely hard since July in bringing this show to the superior level it has become. [Full Story »]
