During the month of October, the Appling County churches were asked to help with the supply of peanut butter for the Appling County Food Bank. The food bank was facing a shortage, due to supplies not being available through USDA and SNAP programs. On Monday, after the first Sunday of October, a couple of gentlemen came to the food bank and stated their pastor announced the need for peanut butter; they went out and bought eight flats of peanut butter and made the donation. On behalf of the State Bar of Georgia, I am writing to congratulate Brunswick Judicial Circuit Superior Court Judge Stephen D. Kelley on his appointment by Governor Nathan Deal to serve on the State Commission on Family Violence.

The entire state will benefit from Judge Kelley’s service on the commission, which works with judges, advocates, law enforcement, medical professionals, educators and concerned citizens across the state to develop a coordinated community response to address the problem of family violence in Georgia. Robert “Bert” Bragan, 52, died Sunday, Nov. 11, 2012 in Wayne, Michigan. Bert was born March 20, 1960 in Warwick, Rhode Island. Bragan was a veteran of the United States Marine Corp. He was preceded in death by his father, Billy Lamar Bragan, Sr. and two brothers, Thomas Patrick and Timothy Michael Bragan. [Full Story »] 

Amy Marie Hartley Goosby, age 41, granddaughter of deceased Baxley Church of God members, Harvey and Mattie Hartley, passed away November 14, at Community Hospice in Jacksonville. She was the wife of Joseph Goosby, mother to Brianna Kirby, Daniel Goosby and Erin Goosby. [Full Story »] 

Judy Lynch, 62, died Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2012 at her residence. Judy was born Nov. 9, 1950 in Bacon County to the late Rev. Dorris Black and the late Ella Myrtice Crosby Black. She was a member of Red Oak Baptist Church. Mrs. Lynch was a faithful wife and mother. Faithful, loving and strong are words to describe this humble woman. Judy never wanted attention on herself, but she was eager to be a rock of support for her family and friends. From a kind smile to a word of encouragement to a firm nudge back on to the right path, Judy Lynch embodied a servant’s spirit. Colossians 3:12 says, “As one who has been chosen of God, holy and beloved, you must put on a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.” Judy Lynch wore these traits with dignity and grace through each and every day. Sheriff Benny Deloach advises that on November 13, at 1:17 a.m., 911 received a call about an attempted burglary at 126 Arbor Drive, Baxley. Investigation revealed that two suspects attempted to break into the residence. [Full Story »]
