What happened to God Bless America?

Dear Editor,

When the planes struck on 9/11 ten years ago, everyone became frightened and began to pray and ask God to bless America. There were signs on automobiles, stores and houses asking God to bless America. But after a month or more passed, everyone returned to their every day routines and going their separate ways. Statements were made that there would be bigger, better, and taller buildings built to replace the towers. We stopped praying. Stopped loving one another and showing compassion for one another, but God was still watching. He sees all we do, hears all we say and we take Him for granted; forgetting that He is in control. Appling teams shine

This past week was an impressive week for athletic teams in our community. First the Appling County Middle School Rams football team defeated Pierce County on October 31 to win the 2012 Middle School Conference Championship and then on Friday night the Appling Christian Academy Eagles football team completed the perfect season bringing home another Georgia Christian Athletic Association’s State Championship defeating the Kings Way Crusaders from Douglasville. Both of the games were hard fought and proved why Appling County has some of the best athletic programs and athletes in the state. [Full Story »]

There have been numerous occasions over the years guest writers have written controversial opinions to this newspaper for publication, and in many instances, these opinions have caused what I like to refer to as a “Shoot The Messenger”-type mentality with The News-Banner playing the role as messenger. A memorable train ride

B. J. and I are veteran train riders. We have ridden the exciting Dollywood Express at Pigeon Forge a number of times. The thrilling two-day trip on the awesome Alaska Railway from Fairbanks to Anchorage with a layover in the spectacular Denali National Park was indeed an extraordinary experience worth repeating. I rode a train in Mexico from Creel to Chihuahua City while on a mission trip there (B. J. wasn’t with me on that one). Our most recent train excursion was aboard the Smokey Mountain Train in the Great Smokey Mountains of Western North Carolina. [Full Story »]
