The Baxley/Appling County Chamber of Commerce is gearing up to host the 21st Annual “Celebration of Light” Christmas Parade. Each year local merchants, civic groups, churches, schools and businesses begin designing their float to see who will be the grand prize winner. [Full Story »]

Hatch Nuclear Plant, in cooperation with state and local emergency management agencies, will conduct a test of the plant’s new emergency siren system on Thursday, November 15, to comply with Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) regulations and to ensure residents are promptly notified in the event of an emergency. “Ride and Rally For Kids,” a motorcycle ride benefiting Georgia Baptist Children’s Homes will be held on Saturday, November 17. The ride will start on the Baxley Campus - 9420 Blackshear Hwy., Baxley. The one-hour ride will wind through the picturesque back roads of South Georgia. [Full Story »] 

Tri-County CASA’s annual Holiday Fashion Gala will be held Saturday, November 10. Danielle Denison will be the keynote speaker for the evening. Danielle is a wife, mother, employee, co-youth pastor with her husband and a survivor. She was once a ward of the state but has overcome all odds and in her words: “now chooses to share her story in hopes of giving others a ray of light”. Danielle grew up with an unstable childhood and spent her teenage years in a group home in Ludowici. [Full Story »] 

Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE) today released the list of Reward Schools as part of the state’s waiver from the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA). The category is reserved for schools with the highest performance or the biggest academic gains by students in the last three years. [Full Story »]
