Last Tuesday proved to be a good election for incumbents on the local level and nationally. The November 6 General Election also motivated a good numbers of voters to get out and cast ballots as 65 percent of Appling County’s registered votes voted. The Appling County Board of Commissioners held their regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, November 6, at the Appling County Courthouse Annex. During the meeting the Commissioners unanimously approved the road resurface list to be paid for by the Local Maintenance and Improvement Grant (LMIG). The following is the list of the roads, or portions of roadway, that consists of approximately two miles in each district: District One - George Craven Road; District Two - Ellis Road, Nails Ferry Road, and Donnie Lewis Lane; District Three - Norwood Street, Duke Street, Burkett Street, South Main Street, Alderman Street, and Holmesville Extension; District Four - Poor Robin Road, and Bobby Morris Road; and District Five - Campground Road, Prentiss Road, and County Farm Extension. Navy Seaman Apprentice Briana T. Gibbs, daughter of Marlecia L. Johnson, of Daytona Beach, Fla. and Anthony L. Gibbs, of Baxley, recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. [Full Story »] 

Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Jessie L. Caulson, son of Lynne McNeal of Baxley, along with 5,500 Sailors and Marines assigned to the Enterprise Carrier Strike Group (CSG) recently arrived in Norfolk, Va., following a seven-and-a-half-month deployment supporting operations in the Mediterranean and the Arabian Seas. The USS Enterprise’s return to Norfolk will be the 25th and final homecoming in her 51 years of distinguished service. [Full Story »]
