Fall Fitness Run planned for Nov. 17

The Fall Fitness Run will be held on Saturday morning, November 17, at the Elementary Complex in Baxley. The starting time is 8:30 a.m. for the mile and 9:00 for the 5k. If you like to walk and/or run or you’ve been planning to start, come join several hundred participants for a morning of exercise and fun. A t-shirt will be given to all participants. The Appling County Middle School Rams football team defeated Waycross 28-0 in the first round of the playoffs on Wednesday, October 24. With the win the Rams improve to 7-0 on the season and advance to the Championship game against Pierce County on Wednesday, October 31 at 5:00 in Baxley. [Full Story »]

The Appling County Pirates (7-1-1 overall, 5-1 Region 1-AAA) hosted the Tattnall County Battle Creek Warriors (4-4, 3-2) on Friday, October 26, with the Pirates winning 38-28. With the win the Pirates secured the second seed in the State Playoffs from Region 1-AAA. [Full Story »]

Appling Christian Academy fans are reminded that the Georgia Christian Athletic Association’s State Championship Game will be played Friday, November 2, at Eagle Field. The Appling County Pirates (6-1-1 overall, 4-1 Region 1-AAA) traveled to Savannah on Friday, October 19 to face the Beach Bulldogs (1-6, 1-3) at Grayson Stadium, home of the Savannah Sand Gnats. The Appling Christian Academy (ACA) Eagles football team played host to the Shiloh Hills Challengers, of Kennesaw, on Friday night, October 19, at Eagle Field for the last official regular season game of 2012. The Appling Christian Academy Eagles traveled to McDonough Friday night to play the Peoples Baptist Academy Knights for a GCAA conference game. The Eagles got off to a slow start but managed to get things going and take a 26-6 halftime lead. The second half went the Eagles way and ended in a 42-6 win for the Eagles. Top ten ranked cowboy to compete at rodeo in Baxley

Justin Thigpen, from Waycross, will be one of the cowboys competing in the Baxley Lions Club’s Second Annual PCA Rodeo this week. As of October 1, he is ranked Number Ten All Around, Number Eight in Calf Roping and Number Eight in Steer Wrestling. He needs to remain in the top 15 in these events in order to compete in the PCA Finals Rodeo in January. Justin has previously been ranked Number One Over All nationally and will be riding hard to improve his scores in the final weeks of this year’s season. Come cheer him on. [Full Story »]
