For the tenth year in a row, the Appling County Head Start will be participating in the Campbell’s Labels for Education Program.  For over 39 years, Campbell’s Labels for Education program has supported schools across the country by providing more than $114 million in FREE merchandise in exchange for proof of purchase from Campbell products. Labels for Education has added new partnerships, programs, resources and incentives to help generate more support for our program. [Full Story »] 

Baxley Pilot Club installs new officers

The Pilot Club of Baxley held their installation of officers for the coming year 2012-2013 at a local restaurant recently. The former Lt. Governor for the Southeast Region, Joyce Tillman, installed the following officers: Stephanie Mincey, President; Janie Carter, President-elect; Debi Hendrix, Treasurer; Misty Baxley, Claretha Lewis, Beth Sharpe and Joyce Tillman as Directors. City approves budgets with no millage increase

At the regularly scheduled Baxley City Council meeting, held Tuesday morning, September 25, council members unanimously approved the City of Baxley’s FY2013 Budgets and the City’s Millage rate at 5.94 mills for the upcoming year. The General Operating Budget is $3,624,677.00. The FY 2013 budget goes into effect October 1 with a balanced general fund. The general fund is the city’s main operating fund. [Full Story »]

Sheriff Benny Deloach would like to report the following activity of the Appling County Sheriff’s Office.

Sept. 22, answered a call to Deen’s Landing Road in reference to a dispute. A complainant stated a subject had taken her vehicle without her permission and was possibly using drugs, had been drinking and possibly armed with a pistol. [Full Story »] 

Country Club has new owners

It is no secret that the Appling Country Club has been struggling financially for the past few years. With rumors surrounding its demise, a group of Appling County citizens stepped in last week to secure the course’s existence.

On Friday The News-Banner confirmed that Woody Folsom, J.W. Murray and Jerome Murray have bought the golf course outright and are the only stockholders. [Full Story »] 

United Way sets goal of $60,000

United Way of Appling County held a luncheon on September 19 to officially kick off this year’s fundraising campaign. The group has set a goal to raise $60,000.00 this year. Ninety-nine percent of all money collected in the county stays here to help organizations and the less fortunate in our community. [Full Story »]
