Appling County Schools to conduct food drive

The Appling County schools will be conducting a canned food drive on Friday, Oct. 26 at all area schools. The canned goods will be brought to the school by the students in the morning and left in trucks supplied by countywide youth pastors at each school. The 4-H classes will be participating and will collect canned goods throughout the week in their classrooms. This will be on the Friday that concludes “Red Ribbon” week for the schools. Reddish gets twenty years for stabbing

District Attorney Jackie Johnson announces that on October 11, an Appling County Jury found 32 year old James Dejuan Reddish of Baxley guilty of Aggravated Assault. The case stemmed from an April 24, 2011 incident in which Reddish attacked a 46 year old man, stabbing him in the neck with a pair of scissors. The incident left the victim temporarily paralyzed and permanently disabled. [Full Story »] 

City of Baxley purchases property adjacent to park

Mayor Pro Tem Dr. Esco Hall, Jr. made a motion to approve the option and purchase of property adjacent to the Water Works Park for the amount of $45,000.00 (for the appraised value) at the regularly scheduled Baxley City Council meeting held Tuesday morning, October 9. Councilwoman Betty Livingston seconded the motion and the motion was approved. Voting in favor were Hall, Livingston, Pat Williams and Tim Varnadore. Councilman Mickey Bass abstained.
