The Appling County Pirates (3-0-1 overall, 1-0 Region 1-AAA) traveled to Savannah to face the Johnson Atom Smashers (0-4, 0-1) on Thursday, September 20 in the Region opener for both teams. The Pirates were able to hold off the Atom Smashers to win 28-21. [Full Story »]

The annual Homecoming game for Appling Christian Academy was held Friday night at Eagle Field. The Eagles played host to the Abundant Life Cougars of Hardeeville, South Carolina. The local squad dominated the visiting team.

On the opening kickoff, Eagle returner Andrew Phillips scampered 80 yards down the field for a touchdown. Fullback John McLemore added the two-point conversion to make the score 8-0. [Full Story »]

Visitors to Georgia’s State Parks & Historic Sites will not pay for parking or admission on Saturday, September 29 as part of National Public Lands Day. Sponsored by the Friends of Georgia State Parks & Historic Sites, the celebration brings attention to ways that parks enrich communities, plus the importance of local volunteerism. Parking is normally $5 at state parks, and admission ranges from $2.50 to $10 at state historic sites. [Full Story »]

The Appling County Pirates (2-0-1 overall) travelled to Sylvania on Friday, September 14 to face the Screven County Gamecocks (2-1) in a non-region contest. The Pirates were able to get the victory 45-34 and will start Region 1-AAA play this Thursday, September 20 against Johnson of Savannah (0-3) who are coming off a 0-22 loss to Liberty County (2-1). The Faith Christian Crusaders, of Ludowici, did not know what hit them Friday night at Eagle Field as the Appling Christian Academy Eagles football team steamed past the visiting team 60-0. The Eagles are now 4-0 on the season.

Eagle full back Daniel Beasley got the scoring underway for Appling Christian early in the game. The staunch Eagle defense forced Faith to punt and Beasley capped an offensive drive scoring on a 15-yard touchdown run. The two-point conversion was no good and the score was 6-0. [Full Story »]
