Angelia Miles Britt, 63, died Friday morning at East Georgia Regional Medical Center. Born in Alma, she was a 1966 graduate of Jeff Davis County High School and attended Brewton Parker College. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Hazlehurst and made Metter her home for the past thirty-five years. She enjoyed spending time in her flower and vegetable garden, was a fan of dirt track stock car racing and Nascar. She was a caring homemaker devoted to her family and especially enjoyed family time spent at the beach.

Wesley Griffin, Jr., 76, died Friday, August 10, 2012 in Appling Healthcare System. Griffin was born Jan. 29, 1936 in Appling County to the late James “Jim” Washington Griffin and the late Sadie Johnson Griffin. He was a member of Altamaha Baptist Church. Wesley was a logger with Wallace Carter and Sons for many years.

Louise Arnold Haynes, 94, died Friday, July 20, 2012 in Satilla Hospice House in Waycross. Louise was born June 30, 1918 in Appling County and had resided here all of her life. She was retired and had worked with Ship-n-Shore Manufacturing. Ms. Haynes was a member of Friendship Congregational Christian Church. She was preceded in death by a brother, Patrick “Boozer” Arnold and sisters, Lois Williams, Beatrice Vaughn, Opal Davis, Sallie Claxton and Martha Thorpe. Louise was the daughter of the late Patrick Arnold and the late Bessie Mobley Arnold.

Assistant Superintendent Dr. Sandy Dominy gave a presentation on Bring Your Own Technology (BYOT) to Appling County Board members, and members of the public in attendance, at the Appling County Board of Education regular monthly held on August 13. Dominy told board members that BYOT is up and running in the school system and more Internet access points are currently being added at schools. Manning and Frances Sharon Manning a/k/a Frances Sharon Manning to Mortgage Electronic Registration Systems, Inc. as nominee for PrimeSouth Mortgage dated August 18, 2008, and recorded in Deed Book 449, Page 449, and Deed Book 452, Page 513, Appling County Records, said Security Deed having been last sold, assigned, transferred and conveyed to Cimarron Mortgage Company by Assignment, securing a Note in the original principal amount of $125,000.00, the holder thereof pursuant to said Deed and Note thereby secured has declared the entire amount of said indebtedness due and payable and, pursuant to the power of sale contained in said Deed, will on the first Tuesday, September 4, 2012, during the legal hours of sale, before the Courthouse door in said County, sell at public outcry to the highest bidder for cash, the property described in said Deed, to-wit:

Said property is known as 84 Mullis Road, Odum, GA 31555, together with all fixtures and personal property attached to and constituting a part of said property, if any.
Said property will be sold subject to any outstanding ad valorem taxes (including taxes which are a lien, whether or not now due and payable), the right of redemption of any taxing authority, any matters which might be disclosed by an accurate survey and inspection of the property, any assessments, liens, encumbrances, zoning ordinances, restrictions, covenants, and matters of record superior to the Security Deed first set out above.
The sale will be conducted subject (1) to confirmation that the sale is not prohibited under the U.S. Bankruptcy Code and (2) to final confirmation and audit of the status of the loan with the holder of the security deed.
Notice has been given of intention to collect attorney's fees in accordance with the terms of the Note secured by said Deed.

City passes ordinance on Public Indecency

The Baxley City Council approved the second reading and adoption of an ordinance amending Chapter 43, Article I of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Baxley by creating a New Section 42-15 “Public Indecency,” at the regular council meeting August 14. Mayor Steve Rigdon stated that they have received nothing but positive comments from citizens concerning the “Saggy Pants” ordinance.
