Clara Lee Davis
Clara Lee Davis, age 80, passed away Saturday, July 7, in Appling Health Care. She was born September 22, 1931, in Appling County and had resided here all of her life. Clara Lee was disabled and was a member of Midway Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Annie Bell Gurley, Beluah Crosby, and a brother Howard Davis and she was the daughter of the late Joe Davis and the late Irene Griffin Davis.

Three-vehicle wreck leaves one dead, four injured
According to Sheriff Benny Deloach at around 5:00 p.m. on July 16, a three-vehicle accident was reported about eight miles out Highway 144 in Appling County. The accident resulted in the death of Jesica Lynn Oliver, age 18, of Baxley, and four other injuries.

City Attorney Alex Johnson presented several examples from different cities of Baggy/Saggy Pants Ordinances at the regular council meeting July 10. Councilman Kenneth Waithe asked who would be fined if it was a juvenile who is cited for the offense. City Attorney Johnson explained that in that case it would be heard in Juvenile Court instead of City Court. [Full Story »]
