The Appling County Board of Commissioners accepted the low bid from Everett Dykes Grassing for the amount of $1,446,881.00 for road resurfacing of 28 miles over all five Appling County Districts. The motion was approved on a split vote with Commissioners Ronnie Rentz and Theodore Wilkerson voting in favor, and Commissioners Sarah Boatright and Charlie Leggett voting against. Chairman Lewis Parker broke the tie by voting in favor of the motion.
After the vote commissioners Rentz, Wilkerson and Chairman Parker stated they would have preferred voting for a local bidder, J. Heirs Company with a bid of $1,515,331.00, but the amount of difference was too great to overlook and would not fall into the county’s normal three percent grace range for local bidders.
