REUBEN HOLCOMB
David E. Miles Funeral Home announces the death and funeral service for Reuben Holcomb, 90, who died Thursday, May 31, 2012 in the Satilla Regional Hospital in Waycross. Reuben was born Feb. 7, 1922 in Appling County and had lived here all of his life. He was a retired farmer and a member of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church where he faithfully attended the Joy Sunday-School class for four and one-half years without missing a Sunday. Holcomb was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served in World War II. He was a member of the Baxley Masonic Lodge #195 and a charter member of the Baxley VFW Club. He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Evelyn Mann Holcomb. He was the son of the late James H. Holcomb and the late Effie Lucille Osborne Holcomb.

Minnie Elizabeth Scarborough, 92, died Thursday, June 21, 2012 at a Jacksonville, Florida hospital. A native of Baxley, she has resided in Jacksonville since 1949. Mrs. Scarborough was a member of Highlands Baptist Church and was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Frank Scarborough and her daughter, Lanita King.

Hilton White, 86, of Alston, died Friday, June 8, 2012 in the Meadows Regional Hospital in Vidalia. White was born May 21, 1926 in Jeff Davis County, to the late Rowland Y. White and the late Lillie Creamer White, and had resided in Macon until moving to Alston when he retired 13 years ago. He was the owner and operator of White Tire City in Warner Robbins for many years. White was a veteran of the United States Army and served in World War II.

Sarah Belle McGowin, 84, of Xenia, Ohio, passed away Monday, June 4, 2012 at Hospice of Dayton, Ohio. She was born in August 1927 in Xenia, the daughter of Clyde and Mildred (Willett) LaFollette.

Thomas Nelson Williams, 51, of Hazlehurst, died Friday, June 1, 2012. Williams was born in Alma but had lived most of his life in Hazlehurst. He was the son of the late Wynell Quinn Williams. He was employed with Beasley Forest Products and was a member of the Baxley Holiness Church.

James L. Waddell
James L. Waddell, 89, of Jesup, died Friday, May 25, 2012 at his residence. James was born Feb. 4, 1927 to the late Olen Waddell and the late Mary Owens Waddell in Meriwether and had lived in Jesup for the past sixty years. He was retired and before his retirement he was self-employed as a cement finisher. Waddell was a veteran of the United State Army and served in World War II. He was a member of New Life Pentecostal Church of Jesup.

Janice Elaine Harrelson
Janice Elaine Harrelson, 63, died Sunday, May 13, 2012 at her residence. Mrs. Harrelson was born June 21, 1948 in Appling County to the late Robert Lee Carter and the late Marjorie Cason Carter. She was a member of the Ten Mile Creek Baptist Church. Mrs. Harrelson was employed by the Appling County Board of Education as a secretary for the Appling County High School. She was the 2011 Homecoming Grand Marshal and was a Relay for Life honoree. A sister, Linda Christmas, preceded Janice in death.
Survivors include her husband, Weldon Lanier Harrelson of Baxley; two daughters, Regina Carter Eason and Kimberly Rena Carter both of Spartenburg, South Carolina; one stepdaughter, Michelle (Rick) Houston of Baxley; two daughters-in-law, Donna St. John of Gadsten, Alabama and Kim King of Richmond Hill, South Carolina; two stepsons Lanier Harrelson of Gadsten, Alabama and Lyle Harrelson of Baxley; three sisters Patricia Reeves of Baxley, Connie Sargent of Spartenburg, South Carolina, and Lynette Swager of Inman, South Carolina; one brother Tollie Carter of Keystone Heights, Florida; ten grandchildren, one great grandchild, and 25 nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral Services were held at 4:00pm Tuesday, May 15 at Ten mile Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Tommy Daniels and the Rev. Wayne Williamson officiating. Internment followed in the Zoar Cemetery.
Active Pallbearers were Tollie Gosnell, Robbie Carter, Keith Harrelson, Scott Sumner, Lonnie Johnson Jr., and Jeffery Bullard.
Honorary Pallbearers were the Genesis Adult Sunday School Class of Ten Mile Church, Cameron Harrelson, Appling County High School Administrative staff and teachers, staff of Southern Care and Dr. Dwayne Moore’s staff.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the American Cancer Society, c/o Gail Taylor, 124 Brown Street, Baxley, GA 31513.
Musical selections were rendered by Ten Mile Creek Baptist Church choir and Redeeming Grace trio.
Arrangements were under the direction of Swain Funeral Home.
