The Appling County Pirates (34-3) lost game one of the State Championship series 2-4 against the Pierce County Bears (30-8) on Saturday. The Pirates were able to get a big win in game two, 12-1 in five innings, to force a game three that has been delayed due to Tropical Storm Beryl until Thursday, May 31 at 6:00 p.m., weather permitting. The Appling County Pirates (33-2) advanced to the State Championship with two wins over fellow Region 2AA foe Brantley County (20-13) on May 21. The Pirates won the first game 11-1 in five innings and the Pirates would win the second game 12-6 to advance to their first ever state championship. The Appling Pirates (27-1 overall, 16-0 Region 2AA) took on the visiting Thomasville Bulldogs (14-12, 7-5 Region 1AA) in the first round “best of three” series of the GHSA class AA playoffs on Friday afternoon, May 4. The Pirates were victorious in the two games played on Friday by the scores of 12-2 in the first game and 4-1 in the second contest of the day. The Pirates will now advance to the second round to face the Coosa Eagles (17-6, 10-3) of Rome, the number two seed from Region 7AA, in a doubleheader on Wednesday, May 9 with the first game starting at 4:00 p.m. The second game will start 30 minutes after the conclusion of game one. The Appling County Pirates (25-1 overall, 16-0 region 2AA) ended the regular season this week with wins over Brantley County (14-10, 10-6) 8-7 on April 27 and over Calvary Day (17-8, 12-1 3A-A) 5-2 on April 28. [Full Story »] 

Appling Christian’s baseball team advanced through the first two rounds of the Georgia Christian Athletic Associations playoffs this past week.
