Tree Trek winners announced
Fifty-nine runners competed in this year’s Baxley Tree Fest Tree Trek sponsored by the City of Baxley and the Baxley-Appling County Chamber of Commerce. Runners gathered early on Saturday, April 14, to scope out the course map and strategize with fellow competitors.

Wilson completes U.S. Navy basic training
Navy Seaman Recruit Kyle S. Wilson, son of Nancy N. Wilson of Cartersville, and James S. Wilson, of Baxley, recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. During the eight-week program, Wilson completed a variety of training which included classroom study and practical instruction on naval customs, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival, and shipboard and aircraft safety. An emphasis is also placed on physical fitness. The capstone event of boot camp is “Battle Stations”.

City of Graham to have regular meeting at fire station on April 26
Due to the recent fire at the Graham City Hall the City of Graham Council will be having thier regularly scheduled council meeting at the fire station in Graham on Thursday, April 26 at 7:00 p.m. All local citizens are invited to attend.
CASA’s annual “Light Of Hope” ceremony to be held
Tri-County Court Appointed Special Advocates, Inc. Board of Directors, Volunteers and Executive Director will be hosting the CASA’s annual “Light of Hope” Ceremony Monday, April 30, at Baxley City Hall at 7:00 p.m. The keynote speaker for the evening will be Danielle Denison from Wayne County. Mrs. Denison is the wife of Jacob and they have one son, Judah. She and her husband serve as Youth Pastors at Victory Tabernacle Church of God in Jesup.

Graham City Hall torched by arsonist
In the dark of night, around 1:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 18, firemen were dispatched to Graham City Hall for a fire. On arrival fire personnel discovered the public building was being destroyed by the blaze and promptly got the flames under control. On Wednesday morning there were a number of agencies responding to the scene including the Appling County Sheriff’s Department, Georgia Fire Marshal’s office, and Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
