The Appling County Pirate basketball team ended the 2011-2012 season losing to Region 1AA top seeded Albany (24-2 overall) 75-100 in the first round of the state playoffs on Saturday, February 25. Albany is also ranked number three in the State AA Coaches Poll. [Full Story »] 

The Appling County Lady Pirates 2011-2012 season came to an end on Friday, February 24 with a loss in the first round of the State Playoffs to Region 1AA top seed Brooks County (22-6 overall) 55-79. The Lady Pirates were the fourth seed from Region 2AA and end the season with an overall record of 13-18 while ending with a region record of 5-13. [Full Story »]

The Appling County Pirate baseball team opened the 2012 season with three wins over Bacon County (1-1 overall), Ware County (0-3) and Statesboro (1-1) over the last week. The Pirates will face the Vidalia Indians in Vidalia (0-4) on Tuesday night, February 28 to begin Region 2AA play with game time scheduled for 5:45 p.m. The Pirates will then play Wayne County (1-1) at home on Thursday, March 1 then end the week on Friday, March 2 at home against region foe Jeff Davis (2-1). Both home games are scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m.

The Pirates are coming off a 2011 season that had them finish 22-12 with a berth in the final four of the State playoffs where they lost to eventual State Champion Buford. The Pirates also finished the 2011 season second in Region 2AA with a record of 11-4 behind Jeff Davis who finished 14-2 in region play. [Full Story »]

The Appling County Pirates Wrestling Team just completed a very successful season. It started off with the most challenging schedule to date with over 60 individual matches against some very tough competition. As soon as a very successful football season was finished, the wrestling Pirates got their full squad together and began to compete in a number of tournaments, placing in all of them. On December 10 they traveled to Morgan County for the first time and placed 4th against some of the more elite schools in the north. The following weekend they placed again in the Treutlen tournament and finished the tournament section of the schedule by winning the Brantley Bash, which included most of the teams from our region. Appling County High School graduate and Andrew College Women’s Basketball sophomore guard Kelly Bacon was recently named to the Georgia Junior College Athletic Association’s 2012 All-Academic Team.

To be considered for this distinction, athletes must excel in their sport and have an accumulative GPA of 3.0 or better. [Full Story »] 

The Appling County Pirate wrestling team had six to qualify for the State AA Wrestling Tournament held February 16 through February 18. [Full Story »] 

The Appling Pirate basketball team (15-12 overall) was able to qualify for the State AA Playoffs by reaching the final four in the Region 2AA Tournament held in Mt. Vernon over the past week. The Pirates will be the number four seed from the region and will play the top seed from Region 1AA, Albany (23-2) on Saturday, February 25 with game time to be decided later in the week. The Appling Christian Academy Lady Eagles overcame a 17-point deficit to defeat Shiloh Hills Christian School in the GCAA State Championship game in McDonough on Saturday, February 11. The game featured a battle of two powerhouse teams in the conference going head to head. [Full Story »]

The Appling County Pirates (13-10 overall, 8-8 Region 2AA) ended the regular season defeating the Jeff Davis Yellow Jackets (8-17, 3-13) 65-55 on Friday, February 10. Leading the way for the Pirates were Ibn Sumner 20 points, Kevin Johnson 11 points, Ronald Handsome 10 points, C.J. Alexander eight points, Leshawn Mobley six points, Heisman Johnson four points, Anthony Rayner four points and Travis McNeil two points. [Full Story »]
