The Appling County Pirate baseball team opened the 2012 season with three wins over Bacon County (1-1 overall), Ware County (0-3) and Statesboro (1-1) over the last week. The Pirates will face the Vidalia Indians in Vidalia (0-4) on Tuesday night, February 28 to begin Region 2AA play with game time scheduled for 5:45 p.m. The Pirates will then play Wayne County (1-1) at home on Thursday, March 1 then end the week on Friday, March 2 at home against region foe Jeff Davis (2-1). Both home games are scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m.
The Pirates are coming off a 2011 season that had them finish 22-12 with a berth in the final four of the State playoffs where they lost to eventual State Champion Buford. The Pirates also finished the 2011 season second in Region 2AA with a record of 11-4 behind Jeff Davis who finished 14-2 in region play.
