Buxton, Moore Named to All-State Football Teams

Appling County Pirate football player Byron Buxton was named to two Class AA All-State teams. Buxton was named to the All-State team picked by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution (AJC) as a first team defensive back. Buxton was also named to the first team Class AA All-State team picked by the Georgia Sportswriters Association as a wide receiver. This marks that first time that a Pirate player, in recent history, has been named to a first team all-state team on both sides of the ball. [Full Story »] 

Softball and baseball registration set

The Appling County Recreation Department will be having softball and baseball registration. The registration for T-Ball for children ages five and six and Mini Mite (ages seven and eight) will be held Feb. 27 through March 10. [Full Story »] 

Pirates lose two at home

The Appling County Pirate basketball team (9-8 overall, 4-7 Region 2AA) started the week hosting the Tattnall County Battle Creek Warriors (10-9, 8-3) on Tuesday, January 17 but were not able to pick up the win losing 63-74.

The Pirates second contest of the week would have the Pirates hosting the number two ranked Vidalia Indians (18-2, 11-1) with the Pirates losing 53-77. [Full Story »]

The Appling County Lady Pirates (8-10 overall, 3-9 Region 2AA) hosted the Tattnall County Lady Warriors (13-4, 11-2) on Tuesday, January 17 but were not able to pick up the win losing 28-54.

The Lady Pirates would host the Vidalia Lady Indians (10-7, 7-5) on Friday, January 20 with the Lady Pirates losing 41-56. [Full Story »]

The Appling County Pirate basketball team traveled to face the Brantley County Herons on Friday, January 13 with the Pirates being able to pick up the win 59-54 in overtime. The Pirates next contest came on the road against the Long County Blue Tide on Saturday, January 14 with the Pirates taking the loss 40-70. [Full Story »]

The varsity girls (10-0) and the varsity boys (8-2) improved their season records with wins over Peoples Baptist Academy out of McDonough. On the road, January 6, the Lady Eagles outscored their opponent 56-20. Leading scorers for the ACA team were Christian Beasley (14) and Victoria Cox (12). Lindsey Johnson led all rebounders with 17. Alumni football is coming to Baxley

Gridiron Alumni is planning several full contact alumni football games.  Gridiron Alumni travels the nation pitting old football rivals against each other one more time.  

Players are needed to sign up and the first 40 players on each team get to play.  The team that gets 30 people registered first gets home field advantage.  Last year, hundreds of players and thousands of fans swarmed stadiums to watch their hometown heroes strap it on one more time.   [Full Story »]

The Appling County Lady Pirate basketball team defeated the Toombs County Lady Bulldogs 50-32 on Tuesday, January 3.

ACA Basketball Teams continue winning ways

The varsity girls and boys won their games against Bible Baptist of Hampton and Twiggs Academy of Jeffersonville.

The Bible Baptist game was a region contest for the varsity girls in which Lindsey Johnson and Victoria Cox led all scorers with 13 and 11 points, respectively. Sarah Dhaliwal, Alyssa Fernando and Deanna Johnson were the leading rebounders (5 each). [Full Story »]
