Clerk foils armed robbery
Chief James Godfrey reports that on Dec. 2, at approximately 8:42 p.m., Baxley Police Officers answered a call to the Discount Corner Store in reference to a hold up alarm. On arrival the clerk told officers that a white male subject entered the store, came behind the counter displaying a small pistol and demanded money. The clerk was able to knock the pistol out of the robber’s hand. The robber then fled the store on foot. A lookout was posted to other units and surrounding counties with a description of the subject and a possible vehicle. Investigation led to the identity of the robber and after an investigation, Brian David Spell, 28, of Baxley, was arrested on one count of armed robbery. Further investigation led to the arrest of Chase Van Sharpe, 20, also of Baxley, on charges of one count armed robbery.
