Following championship seasons in volleyball and football, the ACA Eagles basketball teams will be in the hunt to make their mark in Appling Christian Athletics for the 2011-2012-season. The basketball program features four teams competing in the Georgia Christian Athletic Association. Coaching the junior varsity boys and girls’ teams is Joseph Brock. Hal Cox and Mike Vinson are the varsity boys and girls coaches for this season.

A pair of local coaches surpassed expectations this season.
Seth Rogers took his Temple squad to the postseason for the first time since 2005 and set a school-record for wins with six, while Ricky Tolleson turned Bremen’s 1-3 start into a region runner-up finish and a trip to the Class A state quarterfinals, earning the pair Times-Georgian All-Area Co-Coach of the Year accolades.

Many Appling County Pirate fans traveled over 270 miles to Calhoun on Friday, Dec. 2 to support the Pirates as they played in the State 2AA final four against the Calhoun Yellow Jackets (14-0). The Pirates were not able to pick up the win, losing 14-51, but ended the season with an amazing record of 12-2 overall while going 6-1 in region play. The Pirates made it to the final four for the second time in school history with the only previous time coming during the 1999 season and one season removed from finishing 4-7 overall and 3-4 in region play.
