Sheriff Benny DeLoach would like to report the following activity of the Appling County Sheriff’s Office.

Nov. 18, a complainant came to the Appling County Sheriff’s Office to report a theft that occurred on George Craven Road. The complainant stated missing from her residence was several items of jewelry, valued at approximately $500.00. The complainant also stated the possible suspect may be a family member. The Appling County Elementary School is honored to be the home of the 2011-2012 ACES’ Show Choir. The show choir is composed with 63 singers and director, Songja Cain.

The Appling County Board of Commissioners held its monthly on Tuesday, November 15 at the Appling County Courthouse Annex. During the meeting information was shared about the need for benches and tables at Max Deen and Ernest J. Parker Parks. The cost of all the benches and tables needed is $12,547.00, not including freight. A motion was made by Commissioner Sarah Boatright to purchase the benches and tables using money out of contingency due to this not being a budgeted item, with a second by Commissioner Theodore Wilkerson. Following discussion at its work session on November 7 and the regular meeting held Nov. 14, the Appling County Board of Education voted unanimously to move forward with securing designs for construction projects/renovations at Altamaha Elementary School and Fourth District Elementary. The projected estimated cost of the projects, to be paid for by Education Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (ESPLOST) funds, is $4,812,356.00. [Full Story »] 

Sheriff Benny DeLoach would like to report the following activity of the Appling County Sheriff’s Office.

Nov. 2, answered a call to Hatch Parkway North in reference to a theft. The complainant stated that person(s) unknown had taken approximately 60 scrap batteries from his place of business without his permission. Investigation revealed batteries were taken to a salvage business and sold. Warrants are forthcoming. [Full Story »]

The Georgia Judicial Qualifications Commission has informed Glynn County Superior Court Judge Amanda Williams it would proceed with action that could result in her removal from the bench.

She is charged with 12 violations of judicial canons including jailing defendants without proper hearings, choosing the judges for cases involving her family members who are lawyers, and having bailiffs handcuff a student who cried in her court, who Williams had admonished for laughing. Baxley Police Officers answered a call to the Budget Host Inn on Nov. 5, at approximately 11:13 a.m., in reference to a request to check on a guest. Upon arrival the officers met with a relative of the guest and learned that he had arrived and was concerned over the well fair of the guest, his son. And after getting no response at the door, he asked the management to open the door to his room so he could check on his son.

Upon entering the room he discovered his son, Bryan Bullard, 25, of Baxley, was deceased. The scene was secured and the EMS was called to the scene along with the coroner’s office, the G.B.I. and the G.B.I. crime scene technicians. The coroner’s office released the body of Bullard to the Georgia Crime Lab for further forensic investigation. [Full Story »] 

In the only contested race for Baxley City Council, incumbent Dr. Esco Hall, Jr. defeated Carlos L. Rooks, Sr. for the District 2 seat. Hall garnered 92 votes and Rooks got 58 votes. District 5 incumbent Betty Livingston ran unopposed and District 1 newcomer Kenneth J. Waithe also ran unopposed for the position left vacant after Councilman Eugene Walker, Jr. resigned earlier this year due to health issues. [Full Story »]
