Appling County Retired Educators’ meeting was called to order by President Patsy Buchannan on Wednesday, Sept. 14 at the Baxley Church of God Fellowship Hall. Joy Connelley gave the inspiration and then the group stood for a moment of silence for Pauline Smith and ACREA members who had passed away. Bed bugs are on the rise after a dramatic decline in the 1940s and 1950s. A couple of reasons for the return are more world-wide travel and today’s insecticides, although safer for people, are less effective in killing these bugs. Bed bugs are small, flat insects, usually reddish-brown and up to 1/4-inch long. Bed bugs do not fly or hop, but can move quickly across floors and walls. Bed bugs most commonly enter hotels or residences by “hitch-hiking” on a suitcase or backpack, used furniture or other objects moved from one building to another. Four-wheeler accident results in fatality

According to Appling County Sheriff Benny Deloach, on October 2 deputies responded to a call at 2209 Buck Williams Road in reference to a four-wheeler accident. Joe Bereta, age 68, of Baxley, was found deceased as a result of a four-wheeler over turning on him. The preliminary ruling by Appling County Assistant Coroner Watson ruled this incident as an accidental death. [Full Story »]

I am not running for any city or county office…but believe me…I’ve got something to say to you about the things you better start ‘standing for’ and believing in…God and Justice!
