City Manager Jeff Baxley stated he had been approached by Robbie Gardner who desires to enter into a rental/lease agreement with the city for the use of the large blue and gray hangar at the airport that the city owns. Arson to blame for house fire
On July 22, at approximately 4:26 a.m., the Baxley Fire Department responded to a house fire on Blackshear Highway. Investigation revealed that the fire was the result of arson. The State Fire Marshall was called to assist in the investigation. A reward up to $10,000.00 is offered for information that would lead to the arrest of person(s) that attempted to burn the house.

The Georgia Environmental Protection Division (EPD) has received an industrial pretreatment permit application for the issuance of an industrial pretreatment permit. Having reviewed such application, the Environmental Protection Division proposes to issue for a maximum term of five years the following permit subject to specific pollutant limitations and conditions:
Rayonier Wood Products, LLC, located at 1830 Golden Isles East, Baxley, Georgia, 31513, Appling County. A sawmill plant located in the Satilla River Basin has an average discharge of 0.010 mgd of process wastewater to the City of Baxley wastewater treatment plant. Permit No. GAP050276 lists the specific pollutant limitations and special conditions for the discharge.
Persons wishing to comment upon or object to the proposed determinations are invited to submit same in writing to the EPD address below, or via e-mail at EPDcomments@dnr.state.ga.us, no later than thirty (30) days after this notification. If you choose to e-mail your comments, please be sure to include the words “Pretreatment permit issuance- Rayonier Wood Products (Appling County)” in the subject line to ensure that your comments will be forwarded to the correct staff. All comments received prior to or on that date will be considered in the formulation of final determinations regarding the application. A public hearing may be held where the EPD Director finds a significant degree of public interest in a proposed permit or group of permits.
