The Appling County Pirate football season will start Friday, August 19 with a scrimmage against neighboring Jeff Davis County Yellow Jackets at Jimmy Swain Stadium with the game scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m. The Pirates and the Yellow Jackets scrimmaged each other to start the 2010 season playing to a 7-7 tie over three quarters, the junior varsity teams played the third quarter with no scoring.
The Pirates are coming off a 4-7 season overall and 3-4 in Region 2AA. The Pirates were able to make it to the playoffs as the fourth seed as a result of tiebreakers due to a tie in the region standings with Brantley and Toombs County. In the playoffs the Pirates traveled to Eatonton to take on the Putnam County War Eagles and came up just short losing 14-20.
