Pea shelling remembered
Friday afternoon we picked two five-gallon buckets of peas from our garden. I picked the Black Crowder peas while Larry worked on the White Acres. Larry taught our grandson Stuart the fine art of pea picking. He has a way to go yet, but we’re working on him. When the picking was finished, Larry and I settled in chairs under the oak trees to shell the peas. After the general conversation flagged, I began reminiscing.

Nelda Jean Carter
Nelda Jean Carter, 65, of Hazlehurst, died Wednesday, June 15, 2011 at Jeff Davis Hospital after a brief illness. Mrs. Carter was born Dec. 25, 1945 in Jeff Davis County to the late Ira Carter and the late Lucille Duncan Carter. She was a beautician.

Helen Ray Dyal
Helen Ray Dyal, 83, died Monday, June 20, 2011 in the Pavilion. Mrs. Dyal was born August 23, 1927 in Appling County to the late Lewis Ward Artemus Jackson and the late Della Irene Herrington Jackson. She was a member of Zoar Baptist Church where she was active in the Mary Wheeler Sunday School Class and served on the hostess committee and flower committee. Helen was a member of the Frankie Parker Homemakers Club. Her husband, Harvey Dyal and four brothers and two sisters preceded her in death.

Time was made the essence of the contract and the Note contained a provision for the payment of attorney’s fees if collected by law or through an attorney at law. FORTH, O.D., executed and delivered to PEOPLES STATE BANK & TRUST a Deed to Secure Debt, recorded in Deed Book 335, Page 525, in the Office of the Clerk of the Superior Court of Appling County, Georgia, conveying the following described property:

Earl Donald Lewis
Earl Donald Lewis, 61, died May 15, 2011 at his residence in Lake Worth, FL. Mr. Lewis was born June 24, 1949 in Appling County to late Clarence Barry Lewis, Sr. and the late Virginia S. Lewis. Earl was a Vietnam veteran. He was employed with Gulfstream Roofing of South Florida. He was an outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing, hunting, barbecues, boating, loved the ocean and also a biker. Mr. Lewis was preceded in death by two brothers, Howard Lewis and C. B. Lewis, Jr. and one sister, Annie R. Johnson Unger.
