Helen Ray Dyal, 83, died Monday, June 20, 2011 in the Pavilion. Mrs. Dyal was born August 23, 1927 in Appling County to the late Lewis Ward Artemus Jackson and the late Della Irene Herrington Jackson. She was a member of Zoar Baptist Church where she was active in the Mary Wheeler Sunday School Class and served on the hostess committee and flower committee. Helen was a member of the Frankie Parker Homemakers Club. Her husband, Harvey Dyal and four brothers and two sisters preceded her in death. [Full Story »]

Vinney Odell Dyal, 82, died Monday, June 13, 2011 in the Pavilion. Mrs. Dyal was born June 24, 1928 in Appling County to the late Warren Courson, Sr. and the late Katie Crosby Courson. Bonnie Herndon Pickren, 93, died Wednesday, June 8, 2011 at her residence in Perry. She was born Dec. 29, 1917 in Appling County to the late Carl Herndon and the late Edna Smith Herndon. As a young lady she was employed as a clerk at Finkelstein Department Store and Tootle’s Bakery in Baxley. Ms. Pickren also worked at the Shipyard in Brunswick. She moved to Warner Robins in 1952 and was employed and retired with Civil Service. Ms. Pickren was a member of First Baptist Church of Warner Robins and a member of the Eastern Star of Warner Robins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Lambert Pickren, a son, Glenn Edward Pickren, four sisters, Gladis Knight, Sarah White, Monteen Morris and Marilyn Vance and a brother, H. C. Herndon. Ruby Brantley Bland, 92, died Friday, May 27, 2011 in the Dublinair Nursing Home in Dublin. Mrs. Bland was born Sept. 30, 1918 in Jeff Davis County to the late Lott Warren Brantley, Sr. and the late Lilly Herrington Brantley. She was a member of Dunn Memorial Baptist Church. Mrs. Bland was preceded in death by her husband, Garland B. Bland; a stepmother, Alice “Doll” Herrington Brantley and three sisters, Gertrude B. Collins, Opal B. Ray and Inez Fleming. Deward Gerrell Elkins, 63, of Hazlehurst, died Friday, June 3, 2011. Mr. Elkins was born in Hazlehurst. He was the son of the late Deward Erastus Elkins and Janet Ruth Cobb Elkins. Mr. Elkins was a veteran of the United States Marines and was wounded in action twice in Vietnam. He received a Bronze Star and two Purple Hearts. Mr. Elkins was the owner/operator of Gerrell Elkins Cabinets. He was preceded in death by a son, Chad Elkins. [Full Story »]
