Buxton selected to Under Armour All-America Game
Under Armour and Baseball Factory would like to congratulate Byron Buxton of Baxley, on his selection to the 2011 Under Armour All-America Baseball Game, powered by Baseball Factory. Held at historic Wrigley Field in Chicago, the game features the most talented high school players from across the country. This year’s game will be held on Saturday, August 13 and will be broadcast live on the MLB Network beginning at 1:05 PM CST.

ACA Eagles complete region play with two wins
The Appling Christian Eagles completed Region play this week with a pair of wins. On Friday in Valdosta the Eagles won 18 to 2 over the Open Bible Christian Warriors. The offense came early and often for the Eagles with four runs scored in the first inning of play. The Warriors would score their only two runs in the bottom of the first inning. The Eagles plated three more runs in the second inning. Appling went quietly in the third but erupted for eleven runs in the fourth and final inning of play.

Buxton strikes out twelve in win over Toombs County

Junior pitcher/outfielder Byron Buxton pitched a gem of a game against the Toombs County Bulldogs in Lyons on Tuesday night. He struck out twelve batters including five of the last six outs of the game. He pitched a three hit, 4-0 shutout. [Full Story »]

Ashley Jones signs with Alabama State University
On Friday, April 22, at 9:00 a.m., Ashley D. Jones signed a basketball scholarship with Division One Alabama State University in the Appling County High School media center.

Appling Christian Eagles clinch
This past Thursday the Eagle baseball team clinched the GCAA Region Title with a 12 to one win over Bible Baptist of Hampton, Georgia. The winning pitcher was Don Phillips who allowed no hits, no runs, with four walks and seven strikeouts.

Pirates still in second place after a wild two weeks

The Appling County Pirates are still clinging to the second place spot in region 2AA after a wild turn of events on Tuesday, April 5 the Pirates beat arch rival Jeff Davis on a walk-off single in the seventh. On Friday night the Pirates struggled against the sixth place Tattnall County Warriors and were defeated 7-6 in nine innings to drop their region record to 7-3. [Full Story »]

Former Appling County Pirate basketball star Frankie King and founder of King Basketball Academy will be hosting a Fundamental basketball clinic on April 16 at Appling County High School located at 482 Blackshear Hwy in Baxley.

The Appling County Pirates played the visiting Jeff Davis Yellow Jackets in a key region 2AA matchup on Tuesday night. The game would turn out to be an intense pitcher’s dual. Byron Buxton got the ball for the Pirates and Jesse Deats would take the mound for the Jackets. The two would match each other pitch for pitch and out for out. Deats gave way to Stephen Farris in the bottom of the seventh and Farris would surrender the winning run with two outs via a walk-off single by Colby Griffin. Pirates won the game 2-1. [Full Story »]

The Appling Pirates traveled to Vidalia on Friday to play a region game that was originally scheduled for Thursday night but was postponed due to inclement weather. In fact the game marked the first time the team took the field since March 26 versus McIntosh County Academy. The Pirates would come out on top 14-3. [Full Story »]

Eagles continue to win
The Appling Christian baseball team was only able to get in one game this past week due to rain. The one game the Eagles played was against region opponent Byne Christian from Albany.
