Sheriff Benny DeLoach would like to report the following activity of the Appling County Sheriff’s Office.

On March 5, answered a call to Highway 144 in reference to a subject attempting to commit a theft. The subject was found inside the cab of an Appling County motor grader trying to start the motor grader. Jerry Carl Evans, age 59, of Baxley, was arrested and charged with DUI 2nd, driving while license withdrawn, and criminal attempt to commit a theft. [Full Story »] 

Friday, March 11th, completed the twenty-eighth day of the Georgia General Assembly’s 2011 legislative session. Two of the biggest and most important issues facing Georgia and local communities are the immigration bill and the HOPE Scholarship Program. I, along with a number of rural legislators, are making a strong effort to insure that the immigration bill, when it is finalized, does not have the unintended effect of creating a beauracy with complicated regulations and unnecessary paperwork placed on farmers, that would make it difficult for them to hire immigrant labor with legal status. Legal immigrants have provided required labor for the blueberry and cotton industry as well as other types of farming. This has a direct impact on our local businesses and area economy. Jackets take Down Pirates 11-4

The Appling County Pirates traveled to Hazlehurst on Friday to play the Jeff Davis Yellow Jackets. The archrivals faced off in a Region 2AA contest. The Jackets would prevail 11-4 behind strong pitching and timely hitting. [Full Story »]
